That’s pretty sad.

+1. My DD was a TJ finalist this year (ultimately not admitted). I am listening to her and a friend talk while I am running carpool, and her friend is like “I would love to go to TJ. I wish I was smart like you, so I couple apply.” It was so sad. This kid is in AAP w/DD and doing well at a Center, on DD’s robotics team. Here is this bright, articulate kid who was resigned to the fact they were not smart. Of course she could have applied to TJ. She might or might not get in. It’s a crap shoot. But to feel like you aren’t smart enough to try?

At my DD's middle school (a school that is maligned here on DCUM and in a "low-performing" district), many kids don't apply because 1) they don't want to deal with rejection (what will my friends think of me?) 2) the opportunity for a high achieving kid to "shine" at the base school of a "low-performing" district. This was our experience. My DD did end up going to TJ - but she had so many nay-sayers including teachers, but especially from peers (friends) and their parents.

I am the earlier poster from 2010. DD knew nothing about AAP before getting the letter. She did not know she was being considered. To me, the most horrid think about the AAP process is the people who's kids are let down when they do not get in.

I agree. I haven’t even told my child about any of it.

Some of us have kids at center schools and this is totally out of our hands.

For those who received eligibility letters, please post their scores and share the info.

I don't even know what my daughter's scores were on most of the tests they administer. How did people get those? The only one I received was NNAT and she was pretty near average (slightly above.) Obviously I'm not a hardcore AAP parent ... which has probably saved me some stress lol.

DD knew, because we're going from private to public, and she was there when I spoke with the teacher about the GBRS form, her music teacher for recommendation, putting together her work samples, etc. I basically told her that it is unlikely that she will get in, so to not get her hopes up, and that nothing really changes for her, in the near term.

You did not get CogAT scores in December? Did you get a letter saying your child was in the screening pool?

No, they didn't send it though I know she took it. And no, she wasn't in the pool as far as I know - her AART teacher asked us for permission to make a referral on her.

Got the letter with "not eligible" decision. NNAT score 145 COGAT 131, not sure if I should appeal or not. Child is above grade in Math and Reading with all 4s in grading reports.

We didn't get any letter yet, but the scores are similar (Cogat higher though).

I would definitely appeal with those scores. Do you know GBRS? Do you have a WISC?

Will request the GBRS. Also considering WISC? Does WISC help?

Do not have the GBRS yet. Considering WISC, does it help?

You should really appeal with a WISC, your kids scores are great on both NNAT and COGAT.
