People who stand up immediately when the plane lands and the seatbelt sign is off

Anonymous
-Because I'm cramped after sitting so long and just really want to stretch my legs
-Because I have a tight connecting flight and need to hustle across the airport
-Because I don't want to get stuck in a massive queue at passport control
-Because I really need to use the bathroom as soon as I'm off the plane

Block them. Done.

I think this is quite normal....what's not normal is the people in the back trying to get off before all of the people in the rows in front of them. wait your turn!

I almost always sit in an aisle seat so I'm happy to get up and stretch my legs.

I'm 6'1" and can't wait a second longer to stretch my legs with the increasingly cramped seat space on planes. This only works if I'm on the aisle though.

I wait patiently. Unless I have a tight connection. If the flight was delayed, it can make a comfortable layover turn into a nightmare.

I have a hip impingement, and it’s is killing me. so I stand to get relief.

Because I always am hoping to be in front of the huge a$$holes who put really heavy bags in the overhead and need help getting them down. Love the idea of charging if you don’t check your luggage.

This.

i absolutely hate it when we are all ready to get off the plane but the people who pushed their way into the aisle think they can rush up from the back and push past everyone else. My kids usually stand in the aisle to box out. We are always ready to get off and never put anything in the overhead.

Pet peeve: the people in the back who place their bags in the front bins so they can make a fast getaway.
This means that if you are sitting near the front, you must go back to get your carryon--against traffic. So, although you are near the front, you become the last off.

Avoiding passport control queues in some airports. Dulles, for ex, if you're not a citizen. You don't want to be the last of several flights to arrive and find several hundred people in front of you.

But again, with small kids, we usually end up somewhere in the middle even if we rush. Sometimes it takes more than an hour.

Agreed, but if you are in row 25 you have to wait for rows 1-24 to empty anaway. So why the rush to stand up?

Because at least you can stretch your legs out. Standing is way, way more comfortable than sitting.

But let’s be honest. Most people aren’t standing just to stretch their legs. If they’re on the aisle seat, they’re rushing to get their bag, or leaning into the aisle /middle people.

This is one of those things that reminds me that Kindergarten doesn’t teach people how to wait nicely in a line like it proposes to.

They're doing both. To me, it's far more preferable to stand and get ready and wait, than sit and not get ready and wait. It's comfortable, it shaves 1.7 seconds off your time. It's better in every way, even if slightly.

I feel like the people who just sit there and do nothing are the same people who go slow in the left lane. Or they're slow walkers. You either get it, or you don't.

why wouldn't you want to get up??

Ha, my husband and I are always at odds with this. I sit and wait until it is my row's turn to get off, and he is the FIRST person who bolts up! In his case, it's because he likes to get his luggage right away from the overhead bin.

At Dulles it matters more where you stand in the people mover vs when you get off the plane bc the people mover will wait to leave until it’s full.

This is true - you can somewhat game the system on the people movers to steal 40-50 seconds of time.

But you really can't get yourself off the plane any faster by standing up sooner rather than later.

What I wish they would do that would help would charge people for carry-ons and make checked bags free - it is the stowing and un-stowing of bags that really causes the on and off boarding process to take so long.

Business travelers are expensing everything and would not care so you'd capture their money and they are the ones most uptight about their time.

No, business travelers spend enough time in airports to not want to spend more. I used to prefer checking luggage, but the airlines have all cut staff and lugfage takes forever to arrive.

I think the aisle people should all get up and collect their stuff from overhead bins, so they are ready to go as soon as the doors open. Once they are standing in the aisle, the middle and window people have a little more space to pull their bags out from underneath the seat in front of them and have it in their hands ready to go, so they are ready to start moving too. As the door opens and the first few aisle people deplane, the middle/window people step quickly into the aisle, grab any bags from overhead bins, and keep walking.

I hate standing at the back of the plane and watching the inefficiency of a huge gap in the deplaning line while one group stands in the middle of the aisle pulling stuff from the seats, the overhead bins, putting on backpacks, checking purses while 50 more people are waiting behind them. Get ready ahead of time, people! We all want off this thing.
