I have an in home daycare and the parents haven't paid in over a month

If you are licensed, send an email off to licensing to give them a heads up of the situation. Often times the unhappy former client will now lodge a complaint to avoid payment. It is best if you contact first.

Also if you advertise online, or have a local daycare facebook groups check in to see if she is leaving negative reviews or comments. Unhappy former clients sometimes start to slander your daycare.

I had a licensed daycare for over ten years. Best advice I ever got was to collect all payments in advance, just like any private school.

So in my contract, the entire payment for March would be due by February 25. Never had a late payment and always had a wait list.

If you have a top-notch program, you can do this. It was hard work, but it the income was incredible. I was there to provide the best possible care of each child, not to accommodate the random whims of the parents. I think my rates were higher than any local preschool.

OP here. Thanks. I already have a few families interested in the open spot. I will collect all payments in advance from now on. I hope I get paid the 1k I owned. The mom says she's going to pay me next paycheck.

OP here. OMG she almost paid the balance but she still owes me $200. She sent me this note through PayPal. I am so hurt.

"Since you are such a crazy bit** and can't wait for the rest till my next paycheck and I want absolutely nothing to do with your lunatic ass again, here is the rest and you can go to hell. I'm not tipping you extra since you have been such a bit**. I'm not paying for your stupid membership. A couple hrs in daytime on weekend is only $20. I'm not paying you for my daughter attending your sons birthday party you crazy bit**. So now, go fu** yourself! GOODBYE AND GOOD RIDDANCE!

And BTW she was hours late to pick up from my sons birthday party. I only charged $20 because she was 2 hours late! The membership expense is something we talked about in advance. She asked me to do some weekends and I told her I usually take my son swimming. She agreed to pay for the add on fee so I can take her daughter with us. I can't believe the way I have been treated.

You can't charge a parent for your kid's birthday party. If you're acting like friends, then you use friend consequences like not inviting them next time.

She sounds crazy but you also sound very unprofessional.

Take her to small claims court for the outstanding $200. Judge Judy will make it right...assuming you have a contract -do you? You never answered that.

Let this be a lesson to have a contract with specifics on late payments. And make your clients pay prior to the service. That should've been a no-brainer.

I did not charge for the birthday party hours. I charged because she picked her daughter up 2 HOURS LATE. She was using me.

Wait, you charged her for her kid to attend your kid's bday party? Was the party during the normal day care hours? Did you ask her to pay extra to cover food and entertainment? That's odd.

I DO have a contract. Do you really think small claims court is worth $200?

That was your post about the mom not picking up from the birthday party?

The party was on the weekend. I do lots of weekend babysitting for her. She showed up an hour late for the birthday party and dropped her kid off. She picked up her daughter 2 hours AFTER the party. I did not charge for the 2 hours during the party. The party was NOT drop off. She was way out of line. I also had to keep calling her because she would not reposed to me. I didn't know where she was. She disappeared from the party.

Take a screenshot of what she wrote and send it to her office manager. She sounds awful.

She sounds like a shitty parent. Make sure she pays you the remaining balance.

Do you have any texts or emails where she agreed to pay for the membership?

In your contract do you have late pick up fees or late payment fees. Did you add them in to her final invoice? Do you have a two week notice requirement?
