It was my understanding that the 10% surcharge is not being passed on to the provider. And you do know that what you are paying, a cut of it goes to Infant Toddler right? I know providers who are thinking about quitting them. |
Of course a cut of it goes to infant toddler. I don't think anyone assumes that Infant Toddler organizes the training, licensing, oversight, and referrals out of the kindness of their good hearts. That is exactly my point . . . as it is, the providers don't get 100% of the fee we pay each month, and people are bitching about a price increase when they are already one of the cheapest services in town. For crying out loud, these are the women that are taking care of our babies all day! They deserve to be compensated fairly. Where did you hear that the 10% surcharge isn't going to the providers? My provider indicated that she will be getting a cut of it, and the providers as a group overwhelmingly voted to support this. A provider that takes infants can take on less children overall, so there is a financial disincentive to take on infants. This will make it more cost effective for them to take care of infants. |
Only great things to say here about infant toddler. They found me a great provider within a few days. I love the woman who cared for my children (who are now in elementary school). She is still a part of our lives. I am so thankful for the service. |
I hope you're not always this touchy. |
What is touchy about this post? I'm just stating that I think providers in the network need to be compensated fairly. I also stated that I heard information that contradicts what PP said. If you feel that is somehow "touchy," you are probably not well suited to participate on this message board. If you haven't noticed, people get personal and vicious very quickly over total non-issues, and if my post above somehow hurt your feelings when I was just stating a fact, you aren't going to enjoy your experiences here. |
I am the PP who poasted about the surcharge and raise in rates. I appreciate you clearing up some of the info on this. Didn't mean to start a war. |
Ladies, I joined a few minutes ago because I am expecting my first baby in January. I was hoping to find some information on day care in Virginia, and instead I found the most grating and disheartening carping and trash talking of each other. I am horrified and disappointed. |
Are you a schoolmarm by any chance? |
For daycare in VA, try:
http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/childcare/search/Default.aspx http://www.dss.virginia.gov/facility/search/licensed.cgi or Infant Toddler |
Unfortunately on this site you have to sift that out honey. |
Thanks! I'll take a look. |
We had a bad experience with MMM. They found a daycare for us, and over time it was constantly overbooked - one provider, 8+ children (contrary to state law). The MMM lady's response was that this provider "works best with a lot of kids; the more the merrier!" She seemed indifferent to our response that it was *illegal*. We pulled DC out and found a nanny-share. |
I'm a MMM supporter, but that is BAD. However, keep in mind that many MMM providers also get children through other sources, so it is possible that it wasn't MMM who overbooked, but the provider herself. Did you report this to anyone else? |
Our childcare provider has an open slot in Glover Park, DC. Elizabeth Wilson is originally from France, but she has been in the US for decades. She is loving and caring and considers herself to be the children's French grandmother. She has been providing childcare for years, and her clients tend to start care when their children are babies and stay until it's time for preschool. I have absolutely no worries when I drop off our 5 month old, and the baby comes back to me well rested and very happy. When I chat with her on the porch, the baby looks up at her lovingly, which about says it all!! Plus, I love the fact that she's immersed in French all day.
I found her on a neighborhood listserve via a Yahoo Group. Might want to join some of those. We were lucky to find her! Elizabeth's number is 202.333.5307. She can provide you with references, including myself. Thanks! Amy |
