Why is Amtrak DC to NYC so much more expensive than flying?

Parking in NYC is a pain.

Plus driving itself is a pain. On the train you can relax and read or watch movies. And you don't have to worry about being stuck in traffic jams or dealing with the dreaded New Jersey interstates.
