+1 Agreed. This is ridiculous. |
| Is a kid with a cumulative WISC score of 128 competive for acceptance at Sidwell or St Albans for 6th grade or 7th grade? Very strong student. |

It's simple -- At many desirable schools in DC and Bethesda, there are many more applicants than there are spaces available. It's nothing personal.
At our K-8 school, there were so many kids that did not get their top choice for 9th grade, even though I am sure that they could have been successful at that school. There is a lot of demand for the desirable schools, and way more qualified applicants than there are spots. |
| It’s my darling child’s fault. She literally rolled around on the floor and started barking at the first school’s play date/assessment. After that we went to the next three schools a lot less stressed and more like “let’s see what our little nut is going to do today.” Yeah, not expecting a yes from that school. But it did make me relax a lot more through this process, itbis what it is. Everything will turn out fine, and if it don’t, I blame my lovely barking rolling on the floor daughter. |
She’s 3, so you get what you get

| For older kids, I think it comes down to the interview. My kid and his cousin both got into different schools and in both cases, after the interviews, the parents were told that the child was full of postitive energy and or especially empathetic. Since there are a lot of well qualified kids, I think this made the difference in our case. |
