At her 18 month appointment she was 35 inches tall, so I'd guess she's probably 37 inches tall by now. Her dad is extremely tall, I am completely average size (5'4'', 135 lbs). She eats normally, stops eating when she is full, but does ask for a lot of snacks on the weekends. I usually try to divert her attention but I do give her snacks when she asks repeatedly (skim string cheese, peanut butter with banana or almond butter, greek yogurt). During the week she eats what her classmates eat at daycare and then dinner with us at home. She doesn't have any juice or sweets and she has 12 ounces of 2% milk a day.

I don't want to set her up for a lifetime of food issues, but I am not sure what to do. Today was a sick visit, so didn't get into this with the ped but will bring it up at her 2 year well visit in January. Anyone have a really huge toddler and have advice?

Just an FYI, a peanut butter and banana sandwitch has more sugar in it than a snickers bar. I think your kids is fine though. 36 inces and 37 pounds is porportionate and toddlers are generally chubby.

omg this child is 9 years old now!! and I'm sure genetically the same as she was always going to be!!!! because this was so clearly about genetics as it is for most 2 year olds with a typical two year old diet. What is up with people resurrecting years old threads lately??

Actually this child would be 8 now. if she was 22 months old at the end of November 2017, she turned 2 in approx January of 2018 which would make her age 8 in May 2024.

OP ignore those family comments.

You are doing great.

Some kids are just big kids, OP, it's okay!

*Some kids are little kids too, my DD always raises alarms at the pediatrician because she's tall but weighed 37 pounds as a first grader, LOL! And the thing is, she eats like crap, she may be small, but she is NOT healthy.

Oh funny, I was going to comment that I have one like this who is now 8, but seeing this is a zombie thread, I wonder if I did actually post the OP years ago with some details changed.

To anyone else who’s concerned, my big toddler is now a big and proportionate 8 year old. Not a string bean, but on the same growth curve she was on in 2017. She’s healthy, active, and projected to be 5’10”+. I’m still a little surprised by her size TBH, but am not an anxious new mom anymore and am confident she’s exactly where she should be.

My kids were all enormous as babies and young toddlers. Peak was a 27lb EBF 6 month old. They now range from a solid but normally sized preschooler to a skinny and small-for-her-age middle schooler. Concentrate on offering healthy food (full fat dairy please!) and be proud of your giant kid!

More ancient posts being treated as current!! Dear moderators: is there a way for you more prominently note the original message dates! This is annoying for us regular readers.

What was the point of bumping a thread from 2017 to ask this question

It’s interesting to see an update from possible OP though!

My two year old was 60 pounds and now, at age 25, weighs 600. He loves milkshakes!

You do not need to change your diet.
Please work on your own issues.
Stop comparing her to her cousins.
What if she isn't a petite girl or woman then what?
You need to deal with your hangups right now.
If you have a scale in your house please toss it unless you are under medical advice to weigh yourself daily.

This is a really over the top response. It’s normal for people to be concerned about the health of their children.

In my case, kids did not stay that big. At their 2 at appointment my girls were very tall and heavy. DD1 was 37” and 28 lbs. DD2 was 37” and 30 lbs.
at 10 and 8 they are in 65% and 50% in height (a little less for weight). I am 5’3” so I did not expect them to stay that tall, but DH is 6’2” and his sisters are both 6’ so…

Umm 28 and 30 pounds at 2 isn’t even heavy. My 1 year old weighed 32 pounds.

He is now 4 and weighs 48 pounds and is 48”.

I know this is a zombie thread but I also had a giant toddler who is now a giant 11 year old. Neither his dad or I are tall, but two of my brothers are.

My niece was also giant her whole childhood - 10lbs at birth and looked like a 4 year old when she was 18 months, to the extent people thought she was developmentally delayed when they thought they were interacting with a barely verbal 4 yr old! She stayed on this trajectory and is now a 5-11 young woman. Tall like her dad.

I realize this is a zombie thread but considering putting your 2 yr old on a diet because she is above average size (with a tall parent!) is very disordered indeed.

If your doctor isn’t worried you shouldn’t be worried.

Does she have a well-balanced diet? Is she active?

If yes to both then this is just her build for now.

My niece was off the charts for weight and height till she was 4 and then she thinned out. Now she’s 14 and 5’10” and lean. Basketball player. Very athletic.
