Is getting only drip coffee at a coffee shop an income signal?

It's a symbol that you like coffee and aren't a gluttonous poser.

I'm rich and drink WaWa coffee..

I make a decent living and I only buy tea at Starbucks. Not a coffee drinker, but I like the atmosphere and the coffee smell.

Unflavored caffe latte or cappuccino is hardly gluttonous. Pumpkin spice lattes and fraps...yes, very gluttonous.

Perhaps we can cross reference it with the periodic new wealth/old wealth posts. Stingy old wealth types would definitely go for drip coffee (although maybe they would prefer to drink coffee at home, brewed in grandma’s percolator, stirred with a 5 generation old silver spoon. Careful don’t spill it on the priceless 19th century Persian carpets!)

I work with multi-millionaire plastic surgeons all day. They order whatever they want at Starbucks. They are not drinking shitty drip coffee.

They are drinking shitty mocha milkshakes?

This is a weird thread to revive.

I think drip is $2, espresso drinks are only another dollar or two.

It was a joke, love. Actually it was sarcasm. Mockery of those who order more elaborate and caloric beverages.

Also a medium black drip coffee is $3.20 incl tax at Starbucks today. I know because I just got one this morning.

I get drip every once in a while, but I always feel like a schmuck for ordering it. Drip coffee -- even made with quality beans -- costs all of 5 cents and requires zero barista talent or high-end machines.

I love drip coffee. It’s all I drink, and I usually brew at home or work. I actually like Starbucks coffee, burnt flavor and all, but I’m not paying $3 for a small coffee. As for being a schmuck, I’d feel like more of a schmuck buying one of those latte/frapuccino milkshake concoctions.

No. I just don’t want the fancy drinks and the sugar/calories. Besides alcohol I only drink water and plain tea or coffee. I

I do feel stupid paying $4 for a plain black coffee, so I usually don’t go to coffee shops. But if I’m meeting someone or need to stop on the road, I’m not going to use that as an excuse to essentially drink a dessert.

DCUM doesn't understand sarcasm. That's why we even have to use the /s tag despite a comment being completely over the top.

I haven't been with one ordering a frap, but I see them ordering everything from pumpkin spice lattes, the sweet apple crisp oatmilk macchiato thing, venti cold brews, venti Americanos, flat whites, to iced lattes. Rich people are not pinching pennies at a coffee shop is my only point. And rich people with taste aren't drinking stale, acidic, and/or barely hot drip coffee from a coffee shop. Drip coffee is just too unpredictable. It's worth an extra two bucks for an Americano or pour over to know you're getting a quality coffee experience at least.

The millionaires are making their coffee at home.

Do you go to decent coffee shops? How many calories do you think are in a cappuccino or a latte? How much sugar? My standard order is a macchiato. According to google, 15 calories, 0 grams of sugar, 0 grams of fat. If 15 calories is too much, you have problems
