I had the same thought. But my rising 6th grade DD's level at band camp this summer had 6 oboes, 4 bassoons, and just 2 flutes. I think the word is out. |

A long time ago I was told I had to learn the flute before I could move on to the piccolo. I would think around the 6th or 7th grade you might want to be looking into when you are supposed to switch. ![]() -signed dropped the flute after 4 months |
You must not be in DMV area. I heard if a kid can play viola, horn, or bassoon, MCYO will take him/her. For clarinet or flute players, there are over 100 platers fighting for 3-4 seats. |
A flute and a piccolo are identical and if you play one you can play the other. PP would have gotten a A+ for trolling if they had picked an instrument other than piccolo. |
things are changing. Anything that is identified as a hook is overwhelmed by people who think the post important thing is going to an elite college; typically these parents are not familiar with the us higher educational system. |
I played piccolo in my high school marching band — I KNEW it had to be good for something, LOL! |
None of these ECs are "hooks". They are normal ECs, that is all.
invent an app. found a charity - and be seen in Africa, building those wells and houses learn and extraordinary array of languages, fluently get published as a poet in literary anthologies, the New yorker etc come on people - French, Flute, Bassoon, its all NORMAL like I say, no hooks here. |
