Is Atheism it's own religion?

So I don't see the irony you speak of.

I suspect you are just trolling.

OP here:

Im no more trolling than the Atheists here who insert themselves into every thread and try to convince us that there is no God. If you'll be willing to admit that they are trolling, then perhaps I'll say I'm trolling as well. But we both know that won't happen, don't we? Yes.

I suppose there are trolls of all kinds. Atheists could certainly troll you. You thread stood out because there was another thread about the Church of Satan, started right around the same time.

As an atheist, I've never tried to convert people. I am not really into organized religion, which is why it appealed to me in the first place. I try not to judge people who have faith in something. That's your business. As long as you don't try to convert me, I keep my opinions about religion private.

I don't hate atheists and even I've noticed the same phenomenon as the OP. You don't need links just find any thread about God in this forum.

I don't follow this forum so I haven't seen this, but I have noticed a lot more proselytizing and blatant religious comments in other forums. Maybe it's backlash from that?

A different atheist here. I've been on these boards for a while and the phenomenon described by these posters isn't something they're making up. For a while there were some of the stereotypical "angry atheists" who got fairly aggressive and obnoxious - even to the point of jumping into threads where the topic was not a question of belief vs lack of belief or where participants specifically asked that the conversation be limited to specific faiths or traditions.

It seems like that trend has faded, but it was pretty pervasive for a while.

Weren't there some serious anti-atheist trolls then too? Starting nasty threads, etc.

Yes, there were. There was definitely some tit-for-tat posting. I don't recall those in particular, but I do recall threads where someone would ask for a church recommendation or ask people's opinions about a church and the atheist posters would jump in aggressively to argue about why people believe. It was inappropriate.

Those arguments have their time and place, and there was a distinct lack of boundaries.

glad this is all in the past and we don't have to talk about it any more -- unless we feel some ongoing need to blast people who aren't here any more.

Atheism is by definition the absence of religion. So no.

You could search Santa Clause and Easter Bunny under religious forum. They like to compare believing in god to believing in those 2.

You sound very threatened. Why is that?

Was waiting for an atheist to say this. It always shows up....

Pan over to the atheist poster patting herself on the back because she thinks (usually incorrectly) that she's "threatened" somebody's faith by "poking holes" in it.

Atheist proselytizers are actually pretty predictable. Cue "why does God allow wars?"

The Horus/Mithras poster (aka "Groundhog" because she shows up every year right about now) is a real hoot. In case you didn't know, the gospels are supposedly a rip-off of an earlier myth where Horus lost his golden penis but some woman impregnated herself with it. Totally like Mary, right? Nah.

Atheism isn't a religion, it's the absence of religion. But I'm with you on atheist proselytizing and evangelizing, because some of them definitely try to push their philosophy on you. Sure, you can proselytize for something secular like atheism.

Atheists proselytize/push their POVs on DCUM more than any religion here--the Jews, Christians, and Muslims here are more concerned with getting advice on where to worship or how to treat other religions for major holidays, etc.

What are the second and third worst religions in the country? And what are the top three best religions, in your opinion?

Some DCUM atheists are flat-out trolls, like this one

Anonymous wrote:No. There are some religions that fall under an atheist umbrella (certain sects of Buddhism, for example) but aethiesim is explicitly the lack of religion. I am now atheist after having been raised Christian and I do not try to convert people, nor do I talk about my atheism. I find that Christians are the most aggressive about trying to convert people, so I don't know what the pp is talking about.

I don't try to convert anyone. I'm actually silent about my faith, because I know everyone despises it. So I'm not really sure what you're talking about. Different experiences, I guess.

Really? So you are saying that jehovah's witness, mormons, etc. that go door to door trying to convert people are less aggressive than any atheist that disagrees with your belief? What about evangelicals? My parents are evangelical Christians, and I can tell you that they, and members of their church are NOT quiet about their beliefs, and will never give up trying to convert me. When I said that I find Christians to be the most aggressive about trying to convert people, you cannot deny that there is some truth to this. Are all Christians like that? Of course not, but even the sweetest old lady at my visa pickup has asked me if I've found a church, and when I say no, tries to get me to go to hers.

The Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons (who are not mainstream Christians, btw) can't hold a candle to communist regimes in Russia, China and elsewhere. So there's that.
