Constitution Hall graduations

We Uber'd to DAR for the ceremony. I was a nice venue, good pics afterward. Went to a restaurant nearby. It did feel a little more special to have it at DAR.

Still, you are limited as DAR can only accommodate so many. In a graduating class of 500, space has to be made for the faculty, honored guests AND families. There were no vacant seats at DAR.

We could not invite our three local grandparents.

I vote to stay in VA. Yes, it was a lovely ceremony, but it's a high school graduation after all.

There were empty seats at DAR this year. I wondered about it. Maybe one hundred.

It's definitely special -- just not terribly practical, even for a one-day, special event. It wasn't designed for so many groups coming and going at once. Aesthetically, it's lovely. Logistically it's a nightmare. Our school transports not only all students and staff by bus, but all the band instruments by UHaul.

Just watch the live video feed next time, and let others who like the venue enjoy their kids' graduations.

Royal pain in the ass. Parking and traffic or horrendous.

Have you been to one? I'm a teacher and don't need to worry about transportation but feel terrible for families and graduates every year. We are huddled waiting on steps until we can finally get in. There is mass confusion as one graduation is letting out and hundreds of other people are waiting to enter. Not all staff are helpful and instead yell for people to move and there is nowhere to go because people are everywhere. Many of the problems would be avoided if the graduations were not booked so close to each other.

Our Arlington HS is projected to have 4,000 students by the time my kids are there.

I don't know where the fuck they plan to hold a 1,000 student graduation. It's always been at DAR which is very close.

They won't fit in the future.

Nephew's graduation was at Nissan Pavillion. No tickets required.

I have been to two (including two weeks ago) and the hassle described on this thread is over rated. The only poster with a legitimate gripe is the one that had to deal with two wheel chairs.

All Arlington high schools, in the olden days, used to have graduations in their football stadiums. I think that practice stopped in the 90s.

Agreed. I'm the PP who rented a bus with other parents. It was one of those Chariots for Hire shuttle buses, not the huge bus. Turned out so great - no hassle whatsoever. I'd happily pay for that again. I think it worked out to only about $45 per couple.
