Speaking of weddings, is it normal for a couple to not have had sex on their wedding night?

The air conditioner was broken in our hotel! It was June and very humid. We were exhausted already from the day, and spent our wedding night lying as far apart from each other as humanly possible. Dripping with sweat. We just laid there and watched TV. Lol! 15 years later still happily married.

I recently attended a wedding of a very you are couple from very religious Baptist backgrounds. The pastor actually alluded to the couple having sex later, and the bride had her father give the groom her "purity ring," (which was originally given to her by her dad) during the ceremony. So creepy to me! Her dad essentially giving his daughters virginity to her husband as though it's a dowry, or like these men are the keepers of her sexuality. And all done ceremoniously in front of their family and friends.

(Of course there was no alcohol at the reception, so that wouldn't have been a factor later).

*"very young couple," not "very you are."

We're you at a Duggar wedding?

No, my husband turned on the television and proceeded to run through the channels until he settled on his favorite fishing show. We are divorced now, mostly due to years of similar selfish behavior.

Of course we did. It was the first time for both of us!

Well, I mean, gotta prioritize your Bassmasters!
He sounds like a tool-- hope you are happier now!

That's why the bride was smiling at the wedding. She knows she doesn't have to have sex with her husband any more.

Normal. We didn't. I was 6 weeks pregnant and exhausted and nauseated.

That's really f*cked up and mortifying.

And funny enough, something similar happened a a VERY conservative Muslim Pakistani wedding I attended over a decade ago. The hardcore Baptists and conservative Muslims are two sides of the same coin. They just express their misogyny and authoritarian paternalism in different ways.

Wait - were neither of you using birth control? I spoke with my OB and made sure I timed it such that I got my period the week BEFORE the wedding so that I didn't have it during the wedding or on our honeymoon.
