My kid has final exams the last week of school. So yes, they are working up until the end...currently in review period. THAT is how you master material...not a test retake now and then. As you most likely know, mid term and final exams have been eliminated from MCPS. That may explain why some tests have to be retaken, because otherwise how would kids ever see the material again and have the opportunity to demonstrate mastery. This approach, to me, is lazy and not comprehensive, because not all tests are retaken. If you screw up an important concept in your Algebra test, and there is no retake, that's the end of it. In my son's private, he will see the material again at the end of the semester during mid term or final exams. In fact he is reviewing all of these concepts during his review days. He will be more prepared than his MCPS friends for college. I have no doubt at all. |
| Again the private school parent preeching about policies they dont really understand. Mcps replaced mid terms and finals with an end of the quarter test. I don't think it was a great idea to switch from two tests to four...but they do see the material again and since they are tests not quizzes they are not retakable. |
OK, so explain to me why my son's friends are doing "nothing" in school from now until the last day in all but two classes. This is 100% true conversation I had yesterday with two high school sophomores. They bragged about how easy it is. |
The tests can also be retaken. The department head meets with teachers every couple of weeks and they decide which tests can be administered again. So you are wrong, again. |
Required quarterly assessments can not be retaken. You are mistaken. |
I didn't say quarterly assessments. I was referring to tests during the quarter. Are there no tests during the quarter? Are you saying there is only one test a quarter? Because that is another problem then. |
The post you quoted was about the guarterly assessments.. Not aware of actual unit tests being retaken either. My kids typically get 1 quiz a quarter and sometimes the teacher selects which one. It rarely is a huge grade changer. A good student can recover from a poor quiz and a struggling student work t be helped much. |
