NP here. I *hate* when religious people say crap like this. I was an evangelical Christian, attended a conservative evangelical college, received a degree in Biblical studies, and eventually lost my faith for a variety of reasons. But no one could say I didn't try my damn hardest to hold onto my faith. No one worked harder than I did at clinging to a belief in God. But once I finally accepted that God was not real, it was like someone lifted a weight off my shoulders. PP, you have no idea what other people's spiritual journeys have been. Back off. |
No, not really.... Assuming that PP is searching for truth, that always leads back to God. |
I'm sorry that experience happened to you, but without knowing the "variety of reasons," this post really doesn't tell us much. Of course I have no idea what other people's journeys have been. But I do know that there is one truth -- one end point -- and we -- hopefully -- will all find it. And God hasn't given up on you, BTW. |
No judgemental posts, please. |
Talking in absolutes is pretty rude. At least say "in my opinion" because your experience is just your own. Everyone has their own path. |
Again, please lay off the absolutes. |

Ok, I'll play.
1. Do you believe in God? Yes 2. Do you believe in a "higher power" or intelligent force at hand? Yes 3. Do you participate in organized religion? No 4. Do you believe most of the tenets of your religion? I don't know about "most", but there are definitiely some I don't believe in. 5. Which religion? Catholicism 6. How often do you pray? Every once in a while, mostly when I'm struggling with something or someone is very ill 7. How often do you attend religious services? Once per year, if that 8. How were you brought up in religion? Same religion as now? Attended Catholic school, attended Mass every week growing up, received the early sacraments 9. How are you bringing up your children wrt religion? My children are baptized but that's about it. I'm on the fence about how much further to get involved. There are many tenets of the church I strongly disagree with (I'm pro gay marriage and pro choice) but I think there are also some good teachings. Religion is also a big part of my extended family traditions and holidays (First Communion, Christmas, Easter, confirmation). 10. How important is your religion/spirituality to you? Not sure. It changes over time. Some questions about sharing that information with others: A. Were you comfortable responding to these questions on DCUM? sure B. Are you comfortable discussing your true personal beliefs with friends and family? Depends. Some people yes, some no. C. Would you share your true personal beliefs to a stranger on a telephone poll? [b] I don't answer the phone if I don't recognize the number. |
PP here. Apparently I don't know how to use the bold function on here! |
Of course. And some of those paths lead right off the cliff |

Being in hell would be better than being in "heaven" with the Christian god. |
