Long hair over 50, is it always the longer the better?

My mom, my friends, my old hair stylist (who is no longer my hair stylist). Started when I turned forty.

Truly, this is fascinating to me. Who are these friends? What do they say to you?

My friends never say anything but positive things about how I look. That doesn't mean they complement me all the time--they don't. But if anyone does say anything, it is always positive. Do other people have "friends" who criticize their looks? Why are you friends with these people?

Can't help you with the mother problem.

They say--"after you are forty everyone looks better with shorter hair." Granted, most are not close friends (obviously)--they are neighbors, relatives, friends of friends/relatives, and are typically loud, obnoxious, and don't have filters. I ignore them, but it doesn't stop them from saying things. "When are you finally getting your hair cut?" "Do you know you have some gray hair?" "Only young women look good with long hair." "You have not really come into your own yet." (What the heck does this even mean???) My relatives are rude, obnoxious, and have no boundaries.

I've had a couple of hairstylists scalp me--once they do it, they realize their mistake because my hair looks so much thinner and more limp when it is shorter. Whoops. They add more product and blow dry and blow dry. I don't go back or give them a tip.

I let go of "friends" who are critical, but I can't do much about the neighbors, my relatives, or my relative's friends. Lots of obnoxious people out there and I think they hone in on the fact I have a soft voice and try to be nice, rather than being an obnoxious loudmouth. Since turning 50 I am running out of patience for the relatives, minimize my time with them, and wave to the obnoxious neighbors but don't engage.

Even if you don't have any grey hair, the structure of the hair just look old. I don't know why would anyone wants more of that. For me it is like adding more folds of sagging skin to your face or body. Having sex has nothing to do with the length of the hair. I really feel bad for woman who had this experience in life and think they can be attractive to man only with the long hair.

I think you're generalizing a bit. I'm 46 and my stylist always tells me I have the most beautiful, soft, shiny hair. I'll keep wearing it shoulder length until that's no longer the case.

I think shoulder length is fine. Anything below that, however, is pushing it.

You are an exception to the general r use. And shoulder length is not a long hair, it is medium length.

Hahaha! These women would look good bald. You will not look like them with these cuts. Dream on.

Preferably the European who posted. I'm guessing from somewhere in Northern Europe, it seems to be much more common.

I like these:
