I check daily and reconcile with a budgeting APP. I don't keep a lot of cash in my checking account (damn you Amazon Prime!) so I make sure my auto drafts are posting correctly
I'm in my 50's. I stopped balancing my checking in my 30's. At that point, I started doing 90% of my business (now it's more like 98%) by cc. I log into each account about twice a month. I review all transations on my cc's and against my checking and savings accounts. I look at each transaction to the $100 and make sure that there's nothing egregious. But I wouldn't know if I wrote a check or charged a transaction for $123.45 and it was billed as $132.54. I check my cc's to make sure that my wife or I actually visited that place at that time (and I have caught a few erroneous transactions). I check my checking account for the small handful of checks I write each year. I check my checking account for the direct deposit from my secondary job and my savings account for the direct deposit from my primary job. I don't balance, but I check for transactions and make sure that I maintain a steady balance in my checking and savings accounts and transfer money to/from the money market if needed.
of course. Had a millennial working for me who didn't and then he realized that someone was taking small amounts out of his checking account on a regular basis, $5 here, $10 there, it had added up to hundreds over a few months because he wasn't checking his account carefully.

31 and I do it to the penny! I utilize Quicken...
|
I can't feel bad for those who don't pay attention to their finances. Using a checkbook or another method needs to always be checked frequently.
I use Mint to see everything in one place and I change the category on a lot of things so I can have an accurate view of how my budget is looking.
Yes. Monthly. To the penny. And, I have also caught errors by the bank. Naturally, they are never in my favor.
Never. I don't know how to balance a checkbook. But I use mint and check it daily. I currently pay rent with chase quickpay so it's out right away (no waiting to clear). I pay bills online and happen virtually instantly. So I don't really use Chelsea anymore.
