What are our options for getting MMR vaccine

Like many people on this thread, I also know someone who says that her son developed autism after the MMR shot. Whether there is a link or not between an abundance of vaccines at once and autism, I will probably not know until scientific studies are more conclusive. In the mean time, I am lucky to have the financial means to pay for separate doctor visits, and the time to drive to our pediatrician for numerous visits. Why not err on the side of caution? My friend with the autistic child recommended a book "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You ABout Children's Vaccinations," by Stephanie Cave. While I have modified the schedule in the book, I have found this book very helpful reading in crafting a separated vaccination schedule. In essense, I have not done more than two shots at a time (HiB and IPV together; staggered a month apart from DTAP and Prevnar) that varies slightly from what the book recommends. I have given my 15 month old a single measles shot, and will stagger the mumps and rubella shots in subsequent months so that all three are administered before DS turns 18 months old. It is terrible not to know what causes Autism, and my heart goes out to all those people with people suffering with this.... And the cost is apparently enormous...my friend spends more on her autism treatment each month than she does on her mortgage for her large house; but at least the treatment is working and her boy is getting better. Good luck to all with these tough balancing act-type choices....

No, you are not alone and I think all this discussion is insane, the vaccines do more good than harm and we here in America are so lucky to have access to them, think about those child in developing countries who does not have access to them and how they suffer the consequences, including dying at a young age.

We go to Northern VA Pediatrics in Falls Church and they will split the shots up. We are vaccinating our daughter, but on a delayed and spaced-out schedule and have had no problems with that practice.

Good luck with whatever you decide, OP.
