I think most of the advocate of free buildings don't really understand how hard it is actually to make something. Using these sets can teach a child a lot of techniques. You have to have some basic skills before you can be creative. For the same reason, I guess the lego books are good as well, but they tend not to have the step by step instructions. For me, an adult, there is something strangely satisfying about putting a set together following instructions. We also have tons of bricks that are not part of a set. But it is really not that easy to do something you have in mind. Some art class teaches you how to do something from sketches. That may be another way of learning how to free build. |
