Summer beach house for two weeks

I think there's more than one PP complaining about driving. You know that OBX is quiet, and I know that it is, but OP is not from the east coast and might be expecting a happening beach town vibe. You don't really get that there. I actually don't care for the Atlantic City type tourist traps, but I'd still be bored after 2 weeks in OBX.

OP here--looking for a laid back beach vibe--think Malibu, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz (minus the boardwalk), or parts of Kauai. OBX is much more appealing to me than some of the DE places from what I've read. Looks like OBX has surfing, stuff for kids, and is really laid back. A relaxing and pretty place to be with the family and friends for 2 weeks.

I think OBX would be perfect for what you want. It's also possible to be right by the beach.

IMO the very best place to stay in Cape May is Sandpiper Beach Club - right by the beach, pool, kitchens, updated & very clean, beach service (umbrellas, drinks, lunch - no need to pack everything). Grant st! This is iterally the street our house is on. Sandpiper is a great recommendation as is congress hall. Rent bikes, explore the cove and lighthouse, do the zoo etc. eat at tishas, black duck, Peter shields inn, there are a ton of great places. The mall is fun to walks (outdoor pedestrian) and a night w the kids on ocean city or wildwood (go early) is fun. Other than that night you'll never need your car if you're an active person.

If you want laid back, check out Topsoil Beach. It's like OBX in terms of no boardwalk, etc. but less crowded and popular, simply because it's a smaller strip of land compared to OBX. We went there last year with my family and were able to get a beachfront property literally steps away from the water (although we went in September which is off-season). During high tide, the beach disappeared a little, but otherwise the beach was clean and beautiful with soft sand and temperate waters.

If you want laid back, check out Topsoil Beach. It's like OBX in terms of no boardwalk, etc. but less crowded and popular, simply because it's a smaller strip of land compared to OBX. We went there last year with my family and were able to get a beachfront property literally steps away from the water (although we went in September which is off-season). Last week September and first week of August I don't think the additional drive time to Topsail is worth it. OBX will not be crowded then.

As long as you go off peak times it is not an issue. Or do what we do and don't take 95 at all. 210 South, cut over and pick up 301 south of Waldorf and then take 17 to 64.

FYI if the OP does this, you pay a toll from MD to VA (Harry Nice Bridge/301 Bridge).

Route 17 does go pretty quick but there are cops all over usually.

There is a Food Lion well south of Nags Head as well, so you wouldn't have to drive there for groceries. If you stay in Corolla, there is a Food Lion and Harris Teeter within 3 miles of each other.

That was when we thought OP's total budget was $2000, not $4000. What beachfront property can you find for $2000 for 14 days? Slim pickings.
