What do all these people driving new Range Rovers do for a living?

I don't know about RR, but for Mercedes, the vast majority are leased, especially the more expensive models like the S-class. I think people are writing it off to their business.

The $350/month option you linked is technically not a Range Rover (it's an awful vehicle called the LR Discovery) and just screams "I want to snub my nose but can't afford the real thing".

You're probably not going to be getting into a proper full-size fuck-off Range Rover for less than a $1300/month lease payment. The lease offer you posted is low MSRP + high cap cost reduction + low mileage allowance = attractive lease payment.

I just got back from Scottsdale AZ and I have never seen so many high end cars. It was incredible.

Here in this area it is the usual, dr's, lawyers and family money.

I'm in Arlington, and the people I know who drive them are Capitals, own (huge companies), capitals wives, finance and commercial real estate guys and their SAHWs.

What's wrong with driving a nice car? Who cares if it's leased PP? You sound jealous. They are probably still $1500 a month, and to someone is bringing home $50,000 a month, that's nothing.

We bring in nearly $2M. DH drive a toyota and I drive a 12 year old Lexus.

I love the book The Millionaire Next Door.

It's strange the number of Lexus, Range River, etc parked in the driveway of a tiny & needs work home. Different people have different priorities...

Still built in uk.

We own some pretty nice cars. It's a choice and doing so gives us pleasure and puts a little kick into what might otherwise be routine monotony. They're fast, stylish and the interior is sumptuous. Sound system also superb. Depreciation is equal to what others pay in leases because we always strategically time purchases and trade ins. I like the interior craftsmanship, handling, power and amenities of luxury cars. When I grab an airport rental, I'm surprised by the lack of quality and handling.

I'm sure its easier to be free with the car payments when its the company's money (car allowance) and not your own. We make 900k a year but have an 11 year old lexus and a 4 year old toyota sienna both owned free and clear, with no real plans to change them until repairs become a hassle. but that's because we buy them with our own money. I plan to buy future replacement cars with cash. But I see cars as a purely utilitarian purchase and would prefer not to have to baby a new fancy car and get uptight about little dings and scratches which are inevitable with city driving.

Ha, maybe but people still refer to a Mercedes M Glass as a German SUV, it's built in the US. So by similar logic, the Range Rover is an Indian SUV...

Though the G wagon is made in Austria, which is pretty close to Germany...

What is the difference between a Range Rover and a Land Rover?

I am so not a car person. I drive a really nice (to me) Toyota Highlander and I am happy that it has a push button start, back up camera and heated leather seats. That, the fact that it is reliable were my requirements for a car. And is paid off. Haha. I feel like I am styling after I get it washed. I am clearly such a plebeian. And I love it.

FFS your post is irrelevant to the thread. The title isn't how cheap is your car compared to your income....

screams commercial real estate to me!

Np: Range Rovers (model) are made by Land Rover (maker)

FWIW, I could easily afford a Range Rover (DH is biglaw equity partner). I drive a Sienna, which is a far more practical choice. I prefer to invest my money rather than engage in ostentatious consumption. A car is a depreciating asset.

But it's a depreciating asset that many can easily afford.

I paid cash for a brand new Benz. And I did so because I wanted the peace of mind of knowing that the car would last just about forever with little to no problems. And that's exactly what I got. A darned good quality car.

Quality is not a function of price. If it were, Range Rovers wouldn't be the least reliable luxury SUV, if you believe Consumer Reports.

Seriously? This isn't the 1950's.

Don't call DC the DMV.

DC refers to the tristate area, not just DC. That wasn't obvious to you? No-one is calling "DC the DMV". NP
