Yes, Louisa is being bitchy, but damn, I get it. She has this kid bombshell dropped on her after they get married. They had the diner entanglement already. They try co parenting. Then Allison loses it and bails. I do think they thought they were doing what was best for Joanie. And since she cannot have kids of her own...

Anyway, I just don't get why Cole would go there at this point.

Because he still loves her. Always has. They've been together since they were teens.

Yeah. She left HIM remember? And they now have another kid...

I'm having a hard time with this season, it's hard to watch.

+1 Irène Jacob is a wonderful actress and the character is complex and interesting, but unfortunately I agree about the lack of chemistry. Campus story is lame, ridiculous portrayal of interaction between profs and students--no way. Helen's unrequited loved for Noah is getting pathetic. Allison abandoning her daughter is plain stupid and unsympathetic. Casting Brendan Fraser as the abusive guard was inspired, but the storyline is not. I'll give it another episode or two, but I doubt I'll be hanging in there for the season barring some interesting pivot.

She didn't abandon the child really. She felt that the child was in danger because she was having an emotional breakdown. Joanie's fourth birthday brought back traumatic memories of the death of four-year-old Gabriel, so Allison thought Joanie would be better protected by Cole. Cole and his wife took advantage of Allison's mental instability. Allison checked herself into a psych ward. I would not call that abandonment. She left her child with the father while she tried to get healthy,
I'm not the person you quoted, but I have to disagree. I think she did abandon her daughter. What would you call it if someone dropped a child off with you said they'd be back in a few days an then you hear nothing from that person until 6 months later when they suddenly show up demanding to see the child. I think that qualifies as abandonment. I'm not saying Alison wasn't sick or that she didn't do the right thing by seeking treatment. But dropping off your child for what's supposed to be a couple of days and disappearing for 6 months and giving up your custodial rights, what would you call it if not abandonment?

I disagree. Leaving a child with the other parent while checking yourself into the funny farm is a good thing, not abandonment.
But I can't stand Allison. Why Noah upended his marriage for the fish lipped chick is beyond me.

+1 I'm so pissed that Cole slept with Allison again. Cole and his wife are the only likeable characters on the show.

Heartless.

Sorry, I don't think that in any way excuses it once you have gotten remarried.

I also don't get Allison. I feel sorry for her for losing her first child, and I understand that she basically has PTSD or something. But it seems like she disappeared, she didn't explain to Cole what the heck she was doing for so long - remember how he mentioned that he had hired someone to find her and could not do so? I think she is fundamentally mentally unstable and, while she should be able to see her child, I personally would be scared of her having custody due to her instability.

As for her appeal, I think that Cole has a savior complex or something. While I can understand Allison may be not all there mentally, she still seems like a horrible person regardless. She has affairs repeatedly and is insanely self-absorbed. Maybe they are attracted to her mysterious persona, her darkness. But I really don't like her.

I agree. After all she had been through with Noah, that she would jump in bed with Cole - which could ultimately cause further disruption for her child -- I just rolled my eyes at this point. The initial season was a fascinating study of an affair, the psychology behind it and impact of it. But now it's just a study of broken, narcissistic people repeating the same boneheaded mistakes again and again. Which makes it a much fuller show.

While it's still absorbing, it's really just a soap now.

It was so boring! As a mother, I really cannot relate to Alison at all. Sleeping with Cole should make things easier with Luisa. Sneaking into other people's hot tubs and stealing their wine. Sleeping with Noah. This woman is a mess. She keeps falling into the same hole.

Noah sucks. F'ing grow up. Such great behavior for someone who just got out of jail. He told Alison he wanted to live with her and raise a kid that wasn't his own. How about raising your own children?

I don't like the addition of Gunther. He's such psychotic/odd distraction (masturbating into Alison's picture) in what is already a really complicated situation. Since Noah and Gunther never interact outside of prison and he just seems to appear out of nowhere, this is all just some PTSD/paranoia and his delusions are actually what made him run himself off the road.

It's increasingly obvious that the show is written by a man.

I just can't with this show any more. I'm done. (sad to say, because I thought it was very good prior to this season).

This is one of those shows where the first season is just purely masterful but the natural progression of the plot steers it into a borefest. I understand they have to show the post affair world because where else could the plot go but its gotten so so so off the beaten path. Its just stupid now.

I enjoyed last night's episode, its finally shaping up for me. I found the first season annoying because Ruth Wilson and Dominic West do awful US accents, but now I'm used to that and I don't care.

There was too much unconvincing snogging in season 1 as well.

This is much better, where everyone hates each other and is like "Get OFF me!"

I don't know why this should be more appealing, but there was something revoltingly hallmark-card-like about season 1 which put fancy dressing on some sordid adultery. Yuk.

I can't be the only one to wonder if Allison's using birth control.
