No offense, but that Unc alumni list is pretty lousy and not very academic or smart.
U of Marylnd has Sergey Brin (Google) Kevin Plank (Underarmour ) Jim Henson (muppets) Larry David (Seinfeld ) Brendan Irebe ( oculus virtual reality) Harry Smith ( invented pulse Dopplar radar) George Laurer ( invented the universal price code) Carl Bernstein ( broke watergate) David Simon (created "The Wire") Alex Severinsky ( invented the hybrid engine) Robert Briskman ( launched Sirius Satellite Radio) Russell Marker ( invented the octane system) George Dantzig ( solved linear programming) Robert Fischell (artificial pancreas, implantable defibrillator, Coronary stents and 200 medical device Patents) These are absolute geniuses that have transformed US and world culture and economy. Also has more Nobel alumni, more Fields medal (math Nobel) alumni more Pulitzer alumni, more academy award alumni, more Emmy winning alumni than Unc. Plus incoming SAT scores are higher than Unc . |

Looked up UofM celebrity types. Found
ESPN Anchors ,Scott Van Pelt, Pam Ward Contributors , Len Elmore, Tim Kirkjian, Norm Chad. News Personalities Carl Bernstein, Bonnie Bernstein, Connie Chung, Kiran Chetry, Jimmy Roberts, Jamie Mcintyre, Mark Mcewen, Heidi Collins , Joy Bauer, Boomer Esiason (NFL today). Actors Karen Allen , Dianne Weist, Jason Kravitz,Larry David. Presidential candidates Martin Omalley Carly Fiorina General celebrities Guiliana Rancic, Gayle King, Robyn Quivers Animators Frank Cho (Liberty meadows ) Aaron Magruder (Liberty meadows ), David Silverman (Simpsons). Sports team owners Dan Snyder (redskins), Ed Snider (flyers, 76ers). On top of the incredible geniuses listed above. This is quite a diverse and relevant group of really interesting people . I don't know how it worked out that this amazing amount of currently relevant and amazing people went to the same school but it's pretty cool. |

I have family with high schoolers in NC, and they say the word is that NC State is more up-and-coming, while UNC is becoming less prestigious. It used to be that NC State was more of a "redneck" school while UNC had more of a country club feel.
I would guess NC State becoming more competitive is because more kids are looking for STEM degrees these days. But don't rule out UMD. Evidently, immediately after graduation you can get a really good job trolling regional college web forums while you pretend you're a multi-millionaire. Any credibility that UMD had in my eyes is long gone after having to scroll through this guy's nonsensical posts for so long. UMD should take out a restraining order on this guy. |

Didn't know this stuff. U.MD needs to advertise this stuff better. It's amazing and should be common knowledge in the DC area. I looked up that Russell Marker fellow and he also invented the first oral contraceptives. |
