How do you qualify for the reduced rate? What are the various tiers?

It follows the FARMS guidance. So if you would qualify for free meals, you pay the least. if you qualify for reduced price meals, you pay a little more. If you don't qualify for any meals assistance you pay full cost.

To qualify for free lunches, a family of 3 would have to earn about $25K annually. I don't know how a family could survive on that in this city. $88 bucks a month (not including before care) would really sting. Has MV every considered making it free for the poorest families?

No, they want the poorest families to stay the heck away from their test scores.

Yep, it gave me the country club feel during the open house and we can afford the aftercare.

Bridges aftercare is also outrageously expensive. $400 for aftercare and $90 for before. $5000 a year is really high for a lot of families.

Must be nice to be able to make those choices. Being rich looks good on you.

Couldn't MV find a less costly aftercare provider? It's really concerning that families that qualify for free lunches would have to pay anything.

Isn't DCPS also eliminating 'free' aftercare for some?

Now you need to be Medicaid eligible or receiving TANF to qualify. Otherwise it's about $82.00 per month.

My understanding is that it's free if you're eligible for free lunch as it should be.

Here's our comparison:
-$275/week (daycare)=14,300

-Aftercare- $360/month=$3,420
-Lunch- ~100/month= $950
-PDs ~25*$41=$1,025
-Summercamps=$2550

Total=$7,945

Difference: $6,355

You do realize that it's in society's interest for people to raise children, right? There are very good arguments for subsidizing childcare, which is why most civilized nations do it at least to some extent. The US is an exception with its "fend for yourself" approach.

Nice privilege you have to have "choices" many folks don't have those. And to be disgusted by others, you are a lovely person.

MV's test scores are not that great.

They really aren't impressive at all. If they're trying to weed out poor students to improve test scores, they're doing a very poor job.

My guess is that it is the total for beforecare, aftercare and lunches.

CMI can easily be 800 if we do before care aftercare lunch and one club.
