Is Max a proper name?

As has been pointed out, the trend of naming kids just nicknames has become common. I'm of the school that short nicknames are good for common use, but that they shouldn't be used as given names. But then, I only really care about my family. What other families do is really up to them. I know a ton of kids that were given nicknames as their full given name and it doesn't really make a difference to me.

So in a way, both of you are right. Your husband is right that traditionally Max is a nickname and not a given name. You are right that many people do name their children using nicknames as the given name. What really matters is that you come to a compromise agreement of what you both want to do.

Tell that to the parents of Max Karl Ernst Ludwig Planck, born 1858 - is that historical enough?

Not actually his given name, baptized "Karl Ernst Ludwig Marx Planck." Marx is a variant of Markus or maybe simply an error for Max but by age 10 he went by the name "Max."

Keep telling yourself that.

What's that supposed to mean? Why so b**tchy? You weren't there and you don't know me or the other Mom. You are some piece of work!

Bitter much?

If you are the person who said "keep telling yourself that" than this is my response: how do you get that I'm the bitter one when I was telling a cute story and you are being the mean one? I think YOU are the bitter person. Before you accuse me take a look at yourself.

Keep telling yourself that I am the bitter one,though...thanks for the laugh

Btw, Op I think Max is a cute name! Great for people and dogs But, if your husband doesn't like it than you may have to find another one.

Sure it is.

We went through the exact same decision-making process and stuck with "just Max." No regrets and no one has questioned it in the past 4 years, either.
