Twentysomethings, how much do you have in savings?

My parents paid for my undergrad, which allowed me to save a good chunk of the money I made - if I'd had to pay for it myself I would probably have a ton of debt, whereas I have none now. Life is comfortable - I'm not rich, but I also don't have kids to support so the money I do make more than cover my needs. Seeing everyone else's crazy high savings on this thread makes me wonder what I'm doing wrong though :/

You are 24 and have 30k in savings. You are doing everything right ?

It seems kind of low compared to previous posts, and I also had to work a LOT to get there, over several years. It's not that I didn't want to put in the work, but it seems like other people achieved the same goal much more easily. I don't have any investments or stocks, only money in my bank account. Maybe it's a sign that I should look into other saving vehicles!

I'm 29. We have 50k is savings, 160K in 401, and 10k in a money market fund. Like many others, most of our money is tied up in our home.

Damn! Not 20something anymore but here goes:

Savings: 1800
Retirement: 10k in tsp ( just got hired) 20k in a mutual fund
Student loans: 18k and still going hard
Rent: 1200 but own a home outright in another state worth 119k
Income: 52k

I spent a bulk of my money becoming an outright
homeowner after I purchased it at 22. I also a took time off to travel extensively which is what I valued second in life next to God. I am just now catching up.

Age ::: drumroll please :::: 34.
DH and I live separately savings wise. Works better for us this way. I can afford to save way more but I still have a travel addiction (i.e. I have two valid tourist passports non military affiliated)

Age 30

about 68 in savings
15 in retirement
another 10 in checking
not sure how much equity in the house, probably around 20
no debt of any kind, still driving my 2009 Toyota
income is 110
everything I have is all me, no trust funds, no college loans (had full scholarship)
I am happy with what I have, although I know I don't have nearly enough for retirement but I hope to start saving more with the new job I got (about 6 months ago).

25 year old public school teacher.

Cash: $13,500

403b: $9,500

Roth IRA: $19,000

Taxable Investments: $58,000

I was fortunate that my parents paid for my college. Parents also invested money for me when I was young and it compounded over time.

68k in savings, 10k stocks, 180k 401k

Most of our money is in our house.

Wow is that between the two of you?

Yes two people. We each have about 90k in our 401ks. We didn't even max them out until last year... but we've been working since 21. I think our secret is that we married young and joined our money and saved together.

No loans?

We have a mortgage? Paid off the student loans and we pay cash for our cars (2- 10 year old cars that we still love).

At least you have a paid off home to live in though. Why can't you start saving now -- how's the income, does it allow 401k and other saving? Savings will go up quick for you bc you don't have a mortgage/rent.

28 years old, $60k income, renter, about $45k in savings split between checking account, bonds, mutual funds, and a retirement account that is a much smaller percentage of that than it should be.

Student loans were just paid off a few months ago and ever since, I've been planning to develop some kind of long-term investment strategy other than "let money pile up in checking account" but never actually following through.
