No freaking way I'd give money because my sister "freaked out" about her credit card being too high. Um yeah, that's why you don't put more money on that than you have in your checking account. No way honey.
But my sister would never in a million years do that, so I don't anticipate ever needing to say no. My sister-in-law on the other hand would totally do something like this. |
As long as she can make the minimum payment, she doesn't need the money from you right now. The $500 was a nice gesture but unnecessary. She may have a real emergency someday and you will need to extend her a loan. |
I think a credit card bill is not a good enough reason. She needs to learn this lesson that credit is not free. |
No way would I loan someone money to pay their credit card bill unless they were using it to buy food or other necessities. I certainly wouldn't forgo my vacation for it. She needs to contact her credit card company and work out an arrangement. |
DA FUQ? Unless it is a medical, as in life or death, emergency who in theeee hellll takes out a loan from their 401k for a vacation or a loan to anyone. That's stupid finance 101 right there! |
+1 The $500 gift is nice, but I'm not cancelling my vacation to pay off someone's credit card. |
Exactly. She declined the $500 but I said the offer stands if she ever feels "panicked" again. It was really about bigger issues which we talked about so I guess all of this ended up to be a positive thing in the end. When she told me she wanted $2000 to pay off her credit card I almost laughed. I mean- really. |
Positive steps. I think you did the right thing. |
+1 |
Thanks to everyone for the support. It was very very helpful so early this morning! Dcum at its finest! |
2k won't do a thing overall. Interest rate on loan will go back into the bucket. |
she doesn't have to pay the whole balance due on the credit card, just the minimum payment |
I would normally not lend money. In this case, since she did to you, I would to her. |
Np, but use this as an excuse to get closer again. |
If that's all you have, you can't afford to go on a trip. Loan it to her- at least you have chances to get it back and then take a trip and even that is maybe. |
