Will I regret a gray kitchen?

+1

Don't know why ppl throw subway tiles up with everything. I think it looks particularly stupid with granite.

I have white marble subway tiles in the kitchen and love it!

When we were looking at houses 99% of the homes we saw were full of brown...wood cabinets, wood floor, tan backsplash, brown granite, tan carpet. Some people may prefer brown. We prefer gray. When we get sick of it, we'll change it.

No, white cabinets do not look dated now, nor do many wood tone cabinets. Btw 99% of people have white or wood tone cabinets so we all have dated kitchens?

Not for me. For me a cold sleek kitchen looks clean. Then, I can add photos, wood, red accents and cute dishcloths, maybe a plant to make it cheery.

But then, I grew up in a log cabin, about as warm and cozy as it gets, and I must have clean decluttered sleekness now. I wonder if many people are playing out as adults what they idolized or conversely, wished to escape as a child.

Most people do not renovate their kitchens and bathrooms every ten years.

Most people live with their kitchens for 20-30 years and their bathrooms as well.

Yeah, not really. MANY people do not stay put that long and new owners come in and redo to THEIR style. And the fact remains, if you don't like it in ten years, you can re-do it. There are lots of people who put granite in in the early 2Ks that are re-doing the tombstones in their kitchen now.

You don't know what future buyers will want and you don't know what you will like in ten years, so do what you like now, if you can.

A gray stain that allows the wood grain to show would look very nice, imho. Look through an ikea catalogue for colors yo make them pop. We have gray floors, white cabinets and a birch table with cherry red bench. The walls are a chalk yellow, which i dont love. The red bench makes me happy every morning.

The color will also hide the natural cracking of the cabinets more than white. We have all oak flooring throughout, so natural wood were not an option for me. The cabinets pair nicely with a warm, rich brown. There are some very beautiful inspiration kitchens on Houzz, I'd start there.

Sounds gorgeous!

Thank you! We just remodeled and I did many hours of "research" on Houzz. I absolutely love it! I am also the poster with the white marble subway tiles.

Subway tiles are also classic.

We went with white cabinets and a white/gray/marble-y quartz countertop. The floors throughout the house are dark wood. Stainless steel tile backsplash (which I fear we will tire of one day, but I love it now). Very light gray walls.

If you can't redo bathrooms and kitchens every ten years, you have over extended yourself

Grey walls will be dated, go with a cream or off white

I disagree. We made selections ten years ago that we still love and have no intentions of changing any time soon.

Do NOT do gray.
White is timeless.

You know the great thing about walls? They can be painted. While not everyone may renovate their kitchen every 10 years, most people paint at least that frequently. Trends change, in 10 years, white or cream may be dated and bold color may be in.
