So many 9th graders in DC are reading on an elementary school level if at all. They are basically capable of 3rd grade work. They have been living in poverty, transience, no male role models and moms who scream get in the fucking car to them (something I see regularly at "moms" picking up kids as young as five at the playground close to my house)...so after well over a decade of this, by the time 9th grade hits a lot of these kids are 10 years behind academically, raging mad at the world and have zero positive role models in their homes. They need to be sent to a boarding vocational school if DCPS is serials about giving them some kind of path forward. Poverty actually causes brain damage to children under the age of 3.

Poppycock!!! No such thing. This ignorant attempt at biological racism should leave you feeling quite stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid! Can you even imagine yourself saying this outloud? In public? Magnificently stupid, PP.

You pile on a bunch of deficits, then top it off with a generalized statement, the idiocy cherry on your racist sundae! Brava, PP.

Enough DCUM for me today.

you are wrong. and it affects brain development regardless of race. Please educate yourself.

Give me a freaking break. The graduation rate for boys of color in DC is 38%. If you want to increase graduation rates, start with boys. These schools are INCREDIBLY successful in Chicago. Compared to the boys in DC, girls are doing great.

I have one son in DCPS and another in an all boys school. There is a huge difference. I'm sorry, but boys are different and learn differently. Schools are already for girls.

This looks like CHEC in Columbia Heights, not the new EMOC high schoo. CHEC has a non-profit called MCIP that gets private funding for a lot of stuff. They don't need to hire via DCPS. Or maybe it's a charter school?

I'm a huge critic of DCPS, but I highly doubt they'd "consider" people still in college for a high profile project.

But if that's the goal then the entire premise is bogus because this is supposed to be college prep, meaning the boys with the best grades, most promise, etc. The boys that SHOULD go to EMHS should be the "best and the brightest" which means you're pulling them out of the "regular" high schools and leaving just the trouble makers with the girls. Disastrous.

If they cared that much, this would start in preschool. 9th grade is way too late to "save" some of these guys.

actually it would start at birth. City can't fix poverty, but let's expect teachers to correct for generations of social neglect.

^^PP here -- sorry - meant before birth, as prenatal care is deficient for poorer families

Yet, if Socialism worked at all, it would have done so by now.

+1. Now because of the set asides mores seats will be open at Wilson to the worst of the worst. Disaster.

Other than over-entitled upper NW families, who cares? Aren't you responsible for ANOTHER criminal activity?

Don't answer, it was rhetorical.

I don't think this is DCPS, and it is definitely not EMHS. EMHS is not in Columbia Heights, but Congress Heights, correct?

If I knew that the EMHS is going to be located in the old Ron Brown school, then I would do a google map of "Ron Brown School DC" and probably learn that EMHS is in Deanwood.

New school culture and uniforms should be done at Wilson. Agree, the girls need one too. And I am SO glad as a DC taxpayer they took 'color' out.

Why? If it were called Jewish, or Hispanic or Asian...or better yet ESOL. No one would be complaining. But ANYTHING GEARED TOWARD ACTUALLY BLACK AMERICANS ALWAYS GETS ATTACKED.

They might have taken the word "color" out of the name but best believe the staff will reflect people of color. I kinda agree no need to make it so obvious...the city might be gentrified but the school system surely is not and probably won't be in decades. You can't have a city population that's less that 50% black and a school system 98% black. Wait aren't the majority of the high-schools named after black with a population predominantly black. I think it be named Barack Obama High School...and be done with it.

Obama HS would be awesome. You do realize he's mixed race? Seems like a great representative of our future.

I think it is statements like this that make it obvious that you live outside of DC. Schools like Cardozo, Ballou, Roosevelt, Coolidge, and Spingarn are named after Blacks, but keep trying.

Isn't there a reason the Harlem Children's Zone starts in the womb? And, Margaret Sanger started Planned Parenthood to abort black babies?
