no, I would never ask travelling guests to bring food. Maybe wine, but not food! |
No, not ever. We drive 8.5 hours to get to my sister's house. We have a centerpiece and fruit basket delivered by a local florist. Very easy and they appreciate it. |
We are the traveling family and we always get assigned dinner rolls. |
Sweet potato, green bean, corn...all casseroles I've had at Thanksgiving regularly. |
Op. dId they U assign a specific casserole? I am just curious |
Not with a 6 plus hour car ride. Some booze, chocolates, are ok. If OP is driving Wed and staying in a hotel the whole thing is just weird. If they want a casserole bring a disposable pie plate, a can of cream of mushroom soup, 2 cans of green beans, some bread crumbs for the top. Plop the stuff in the foil pan at their house , stir it up, and voila! It is so rude for the hosts to even ask I wonder if they really even want them to come. Give them the green bean thing and don't go back. It sounded like the casserole was an issue. |
Some people cook their own food. |
Seriously- You are already driving for hours. I can see the pie but a casserole.... |
+1!! |
Weird and rude, yes. If they're hosting, they should damn well host. That means not imposing on their guests and making them bring 2 dishes (2!) on a 6-hour journey. Poor form. |
"We're happy to bring something, but thinking wine and champagne will travel better. A pie and a casserole probably won't hold up well, especially on a 6-hour trip with the kids in the car! Can't wait to see you!" |
lol. F@ck them. They asked you to bring it. you get it from where ever the hell you want. I would buy it just to piss them off. Also, no I wouldn't ask people that are traveling to bring food, maybe wine. |
I got pressed into hosting this year sincee it wI'll be my baby's first thanksgiving (not that she's eating solids) but everyone on both sides wants to be there.
To maintain sanity I have asked all guests to bring food! (Honestly my mom is so used to cooking everything for thanksgiving that only making a casserole is easy. She keeps adding to the number of things she will make and bring. If you are concerned about food safety next time just ask to bring non perishables like drinks. |
I think it's weird to ask someone who is traveling for six hours to bring food. Geez! |
