Playing the USNWR game. Got a lot of egg on its face for that.

To be honest, I had never heard of this school until 2012, when my high school senior began receiving 1-2 pieces of mail from them every week. It made me wonder why they were trying to hard to get applicants. Now I know.
My situation is similar as I had never heard of Rice until 2012 but that didn't mean it wasn't nationally known or unheard of by others. I can name 20 schools that I am now very familiar with that but were alresdy well known to others outside of my limited realm.
+1. I had never heard of Bowdoin or Franklin and Marshall until this past September. Since then, my DC has educated me and asked for the Fiske college book which has been a real education. It would behoove a lot of people to step outside of their circle and see that there is a major academic world out there.

I attended wash u in the late 70's, it was not nearly as well known then as it is now (probably why I got in!). I am not a Midwesterner, nor do I care for the Midwest, so I think the location is a negative. I work in the MoCo high school system and it is one of the most desirable schools to apply to, it draws the very top students.
