| Then why do 18 year old boys register but not girls if we are all equally equipped to serve? That should be the logical next step of opening all jobs in the services to women, period. |
Well yes, logically our daughters should have to sign up too. Equality and all. |
| Not every man can do every military job. You have to qualify. Same should be true for women. Set standards and if women qualify let them in. Due to physical realities the more strength based jobs will see fewer women qualify and that's fine. There is no reason to keep any individual who qualifies from doing a job they can do based on gender expectations rooted in population averages. |
| Set standards and make some come.in. We should probably be drilling on the weekends like the Swiss, for civil defense. |
| Make women I mean. Just because we have a volunteer military doesn't mean that there wont be a time when citizens are called up. Thats why boys register at 18/adulthood. Girls should too. Like Israel. |

It was nothing to do with training. This was part of the results of the study:
Male Marines with no formal infantry training outperformed infantry-trained women on each weapons system, at levels ranging from 11 to 16 percentage points. |
Easy to make decisions that put both men's and women's lives at risk when you think you'll never get called to the front lines. The draft may happen again, you never know. |

The US did not become one of the strongest military powers because of affirmative action.
I want our military to be strong and ready. I want to know that if my son needs assistance in the field, there will be someone there who has his back and has the strength, the will, and the training to do what needs to be done. If women can compete ON THE SAME LEVEL AS MEN, fine. Then, they can serve where they are needed. Different standards for gender should not ever even be considered. |
| Wouldn't the simple method just to have one set of standards that everyone must pass instead of different standards for men and women? |
As long as those standards are rigorous and not watered down just so more women can make it in. |
Agreed to all the above. There are intangibles though that no one wants to talk about. I'm betting a male marine would find any woman fierce enough to pull him off a battle field about as attractive and love worthy as a woman could be . I'm guessing the reverse might prove true. Yes, I'm being tongue in cheek so don't freak out, but camaraderie and unit cohesion matter. We are talking about 18,19 year olds under fire in some cases - not wine swilling sophisticates opining from arm chairs. If the Marines say it would change them into something different than the marine corps we know I think we need to weigh that. I am.more inclined to all male or all female units with some exceptions when you are talking about infantry, camping, working and sleeping together in close quarters under fire. |
