the JCC in annandale has GREAT options for before and after care; unfortunately, while they do pickups, they don't do them for any schools in McLean. I think the furthest out they go is stenwood on gallows.

have you considered one of the "educare" au pairs? It's a lower priced au pair option for precisely this sort of aftercare need--they are limited to, I think, under 30 hours per week instead of the usual 45.

Other than that, find a family in a similar situation and do an after school pick up babysitter share?

A friend in McLean had her first grader in a home music teaching outfit. They picked up, fed a snack, gave a piano lesson and let the kid either do homework or play in the backyard till pickup.
