sling sucks. read up on how many people have buffering issues. |
That's why it's so frustrating. When we signed up there was no basic option to select. So it was $74.99 for Internet or the same Internet speed and cable for $69 ( it comes to $85 after taxes and modem rental) |
Yes, when you get down to it, the basic doesn't really exist. It's DSL or something ancient like that. |
When we had Comcast it was a sort of off menu economy option. It worked fine for streaming in another state but in VA it was too slow |
We are cable free but I'm a HGTV addict so I have sling. Our setup:
$50 Internet $15 TiVo (my son likes recording shows) $20 Sling $8 Hulu $0 Netflix (sister's account) $8 Amazon Prime (approx monthly cost) $0 over the air major networks thanks to a $20 unobtrusive antenna I'm at about $100/month all in no additional fees/taxes but I have all the streaming options I want plus access to ABC/NBC/CBS/PBS plus I don't have to put up with either Comcast or Verizon nor do I have a glut of crap cable channels. My son watches cartoons from PBS, via Sling (Cartoon Network and Disney) or from other media such as Netlix and YouTube I can watch news from the big three networks, major sports including SuperBowl and the Women's World Cup, my favorite sitcoms like Modern Family, etc. It's a good deal for us and most importantly has made us more conscientious of our viewing and it's reduced our overall TV time. For example, I love Property Brothers and I use sling to watch just Property Brothers when I want to - I don't want to watch by their set schedule. Cutting the cord was great for us, fives ears going strong! |
Five years not ears |
|
That's unfortunate to hear. Did you try it at the beginning or more recently? I heard there were issues during the Final Four but had hoped they had worked the kinks out. What kind of hardware and internet speed do you have? |
Sling sucks. I have 50 Mbps and it just doesn't work. No problem with Amazon fire TV.
When we had cable we just rotated Verizon and Comcast every year. Cut cord a few months ago and stream everything g we want and use cheap Amazon antenna. Don't miss that bill. Hardly anyone I know has full cable anymore. Going to be an interesting few years in the industry. |
The Amazon fire stick is on a reduced cost today for Prime members. |
How long were you canceled/without before rejoining? |
We were thinking of cutting now but may just switch companies (or cancel and restart in spouse's name) and re-evaluate in two years. I feel like it's almost but not quite there yet for what we watch. We both like sports in general but DH is a big college football fan and ESPN has so much online content (live games) that you can only access by logging in to your cable account. He's also skeptical of antenna's since our main TV is in rec room in basement, and I suspect SLing in it's current form would be frustrating. But if we just watched shows I feel like it would be no problem. |
