Maybe it is too simple, but one won't kill you. Strictly speaking yes both are forms of BDD. But gender constructs DO go much past the physical body so I can't say that its ONLY BDD in this case, its just a single part of that puzzle. Much like anorexia isn't solely about BDD but often about control and other links to OCD type disorders. If someone has BDD and deems themselves to be the most amazing looking man on the planet despite being plain or even ugly it might make for an annoying personality but it won't kill the person. If someone feels gender dysmorphic and changes it similarly won't kill the person. If someone has BDD and intends to refuse food of any kind indefinitely it will indeed kill that person. Treat what needs to be treated. Not what doesn't. |
Yes, you mentioned that exact sentiment upthread. Still figuring out how this whole internet thing works? |

All of this! Its not my business and def no cause to be hateful. She's a person. Everyone cannot be who/how you want them to be. |
I was thinking Jake Gyllenhaal... |
Here are a few resources for people who genuinely might not understand the difference between sex and gender or the transgender issue.
http://www.apa.org/pi/lgbt/resources/sexuality-definitions.pdf http://transequality.org/issues/resources/understanding-transgender-people-faq The FAQ, in particular, is very informative. |
Hmm, that's an interesting question. You know in crime scenes (maybe too much CSI for me) the technicians find DNA evidence at the scene and back at the lab they determine it belongs to a male, along with other identifiers. I wonder after the full transformation what would his reveal. Okay, I know before I get the snarly replies, too much damn television. |
I love everything about that VF cover! I'm happy she's being so open with her transition. Honestly, watching her interviews have been so incredibly informative. I had no idea how this worked...
Can't wait for more. |
Love it. She looks great. |
Oh please. I am supposed to think this is normal because it is on the cover of vanity fair??? It isn't. it is weird and slightly gross. Do what you want to do - get a sex change, wear dresses, have sex with animals for all I care, but I don't have to consider your behaviors a normal part of society because pop culture says so. I won't persecute you for it but I will certainly judge you and think you have mental problems. |
He did get treatment, by the way. It's called transitioning. She's now no longer in need of treatment because she's living the way she always needed to live. And like PP said, one is going to kill you because you are literally killing yourself. The other isn't. That's about as simplistic an explanation as your question was. |
Well, that you should care about. It is the one thing listed that hurts a living being. |
Sorry immediate PP, I just realized it sounds like I'm calling out your "treat what needs to be treated, not what doesn't" sentiment. I wasn't. I was adding on to what you said and agree with you. |

Well many of us think people like you have mental problems too. Seriously. I read something like what you wrote and I think "wow, that person 1. isn't all intelligent, 2. isn't all that empathic, 3. probably has some mental health issues that don't allow them to critically think an issue through or see beyond their own nose or experience." So don't worry, we think it about you too. |
