Are most of your currently closest friends those from college?

For the first maybe 5 to 10 years after college my college friends were still among my closest friends. But over time life happened, we stopped calling each other and drifted apart. I've changed a lot since college even though I remember that time as a really great time.

I recently reconnected with a couple of them just to say "hi" and catch up. It was nice to find out that they are doing well.

I"m 46. I have friends from every stage - high school, college, grad school, a couple from intense jobs in my 20s/early 30s, mom's group from my new mom group after first born, and now parents of my kids' friends. As I've grown in my career, I've made fewer and fewer friends through work.

I've always been a "group of people" friend, not a "one best friend" kind of friend. But if I were picking my closest friends, I'd probably pick one or two from each category.

So much of it depends on how you define close. Sometimes the people who are right here - mom's group friends or parents of kids's friends or even neighbors might know much more about my day to day life, and if something happened and I needed immediate support, I'd call one of them. But if close means people who know my deepest darkest secrets, it would be a college friend or two, a grad school friend, someone from an intense past job.
