NP, same here, and they went through a number of parents on the wait list to get to us, and probably more after us. It seems like a decent school but not everyone's first choice. |
Not the PP, but why would you have even applied to a school you disliked so much? I find it hard to believe that someone who felt so strongly about LAMB not only bothered to apply, but was supremely lucky and offered a spot. Unless you applied several years ago. |
What? Their waitlist last year didn't move at all for PK4, and barely for PK3. |
I didn't say I disliked it. You realize there are multiple people posting (and yes, that means multiple people turned down LAMB). We got into a HRCS that we liked much better. We applied to LAMB because we liked it when we visited and thought it would be ok, but when our #1 school called - we JUMPED at the chance. I'm not a fan of Montessori (can't speak if LAMB is real Montessori or not as we aren't at the school). |
Many of us applied before the common lottery - you realize that life DID occur before last years lottery right? |
Last year PK3 waitlist went into the 30s (or more) I thought? |
Correct, there is a myth on DCUM that LAMB's waitlist does not move. Of course, it would move a lot less if it joined the common lottery. I am the NP above who turned down LAMB and mentioned the WL. We got our #1 choice in the common lottery. We would have been happy to go to LAMB. I am not saying it is a bad school. |
| Leave LAMB alone. It's a great school and the kids are doing well. A lot of HRCS don't have a specialized curriculum- unless you consider the IB MYP a big deal. |
|
Not all waitlist at LAMB move. Last year PK4 did not move, period. They chose to accept more 3 year olds instead.
Demoralizing to anyone who had a number 1-5, to say the least, because they don't allow you to get in after PK4. |
How would prek4 have moved last year? They did not have prek4 slots. |
Not who you are responding to, but I'm the poster who posted this upthread:
If anything I've said is incorrect please can you correct me. That was my impression and if it's not the case, or if I can given incorrect information I'd like to know. To me being a "Montessori purist" isnt' that important, but it looked pretty clear that LAMB is not "real" Montessori to the extent that my child's school is, for example, for the reasons I outlined above. Am I wrong? Is the classroom a controlled environment with everything clearly set out (one item of everything), no parents or other adults permitted and no distracting art work on the walls? Is there no technology in the classroom? How do they handle group work? Do kids learn to write before they learn to read? Do they work on cursive? Are all the materials in the primary classroom Montessori materials? Do the guides give lessons to individual students only? |
Don't worry, soon it will be Friday and LAMB will be forgotten. Jut like everyone forgot about poor Bethune when LAMB's lottery came out. |
This. Let the gun slinging about Common Lottery "corruption, conspiracies", etc... begin! |
Different PP - So glad we didn't get in! You're an ass. |
I'm glad you like LAMB. However, there are several Montessori schools in the District that are certified, so I think if it was a LAMB priority it could do so and still meet the accountability standards of OSSE and the charter board. I've never visited Shining Stars, but I have with Lee and it follows all the things the previous poster mentioned. But, it doesn't necessarily have to if the parents are happy and the students are learning. |
