WES or Norwood for a boy

OP - Not to discount the feelings of the person on DCUM who really dislikes WES, but many of us are very happy. Please visit, shadow, talk to parents, etc. Several of the teachers referred to on this Board have left or been removed, so the experiences of people who left even last year will be out-of-date. We applied to both WES and Norwood for two boys, and chose WES. Both schools have good things; you just need to figure out which are most important to you...

Norwood. We found out about WES the hard way. They are very welcoming and nice but once you are there it's s different story.

PP, what happened at WES?

The community at Norwood is incredibly warm and enveloped our family when we had a medical crisis. I would choose Norwood hands down.

We know. You have been posting for a long time now... sorry you had a poor experience but it would be nice to hear new voices and stories. It is hard to know if you are for real or someone who has lost perspective when you post on every thread about WES and have created several threads so that you can negatively reply.

That poster is unable to move on and surface every other month... In a way it is quite sad...

So, you just want positive reviews of WES? There are several long threads about many people's experiences and most are negative. Checkout the old threads about WES if you want details. I vote for Norwood.

WES has lowered tuition for the early years--Transition for instance--that should help boost enrollment. Norwood is a wonderful school with excellent HS placements. The school has outstanding academics and a stable student population.
DCs love it!

Not the above, unhappy poster. Many people had bad experiences at WES. Saying it is one person doesn't make it so, any more than saying that all the deniers are one person. Instead, focus on the positive, like the new principal and the good MS. There is hope for WES, but by confronting issues and addressing them, not denying they exist.

I'm one of the people that has negative things to say about WES. The school has so much potential and I hope they turn things around. But they cannot deny the problems or there is no hope for change.

WES really needs some big staff changes. The new Head seems promising; lets hope the parents allow him to run the school. WES does have potential but after 25 plus years of operation, they should be established and they aren't.
Even though we strongly disliked the school and recently left, that is not to discount those who think WES is fine as is.

Don't need only positive reviews (I'm not the poster from above). But some nuance in the discussion would be helpful. WES is not a "nightmare." There are good things way before you hit MS. If someone's child had a teacher who had a style they felt was destructive to their child, that would be upsetting. The school should be responsive to parental concerns, and I think that is happening now. The HOS who told parents to "take it or leave it" undoubtedly created bad feelings in some families, but he is gone. LS is changing. If posters want to warn prospective families, say "this was our experience" (and actually explain your experience) and advise them to ask the school about it. Don't just dismiss the whole school.

BTW, Norwood has issues too...

In this anonymous forum one disturbed and persistent negative voice can overwhelm many positive views unfortunately. Hence the illusion of many. I would suggest OP to ignore implicit voting in this forum where one can vote early and often and rather rely on school visits.
