Fifty Shades-Who is going?

Box office is $81 million. The US has officially tanked.

And that doesnt include the Sunday box office. Runaway hit. Didn't read the book but saw the film last night. Dakota is great. The guy does fine.

The reason people laugh at the end -- and this wasn't explained in the nyt review I read that mentioned the laughing -- is because the film ends very abruptly (apparently just like the book). As someone who hadn't read the book, it was surprising and campy, so yeah, I laughed.

It was entertaining but all I could think about was how much he needed therapy. I didn't feel any particular chemistry between them and I didn't find the sex erotic or sexy.

+1 to all. I found the sex scenes boring and simultaneously a little disturbing. I haven't read the books but not sure I have a desire to now.

The girl looks like Don Johnson in drag and has the morals of her mother. I think Grandma got around too if you know what I mean.

Is it just the sex? Are you intrigued by the bdsm?

I don't get it. I read that the series is loosely based on the Twilight formula, but I don't see it. What's the appeal of a guy wanting to dominate a girl? I feel like a better premise would have been to have Grey be rich, powerful, demanding and emotionally stunted and cold...without the bdsm. But apparently the bdsm is central to the plot. Which brings me back to my question: what's the appeal? Bdsm? They could have had a sexy plot without it.

I dunno. I just don't get it.

It's just trashy romance with a twist. I don't think that anyone really takes it very seriously, it's more a matter of the fact that it has been so widely read and Christian Grey is a hot fantasy guy. I'm personally not that into Jamie Dornan for some reason, maybe if they had picked another actor to play the roll...

I'm going to wait and read more movie reviews but I'll likely wind up renting it, if I do that..

He has moobs. Does nothing for me.

And frankly? No one can beat the smoldering sexuality that Mickey Rourke brought to 9 1/2 weeks.

The books were horribly written but entertaining in other ways I am happy to note that the movie is actually getting decent to good reviews. Mostly that the horrible prose from the book has been improved and that the two leads actually do have some chemistry. I find that surprisining since they seem so awkward together in interviews. Esp Dakota who seems to have the personality of Kristin Stewart/Wet noodle.

Not sure what reveiews YOU are reading but everything i have read has ripped it to shreds, wouldn't' be caught dead seeing that piece of garbage. Did you see the woman who wrote it? Nasty

She is so boring looking, is the girl supposed to be kind of nerdy? I would have expected a really attractive girl not a homely one.

Although I didn't read the books, I think the homely look was on purpose.

Perhaps this is more your style - Old Fashioned, the anti-Fifty Shades movie.

I saw Old Fashioned on Saturday. Very sweet romance.

I think you misunderstand me. I'd be happy to see a well written BDSM movie-- "50 Shades" is not it.

This book and movie encourage the common misconception that BDSM is about sexier, more exciting abusive relationships. Real BDSM is "Safe, sane, and consensual," and people who actually partake in it hate this book and movie.

My question on here is...

Did anyone actually see it and LOVE this movie? Five stars??

Do you think just because a movie hits Number One at the Box Office opening weekend means that it is a good movie? Or do you think people just went out of curiosity? Or perhaps it was the only date movie out??

I think a better date movie would have been the Sponge Bob movie, but hey...That's just me.

If you want to see hot BDSM, watch the new Sherlocke Holmes episode with Irene Adler as a dominatrix. The actress who plays her is fantastic and Mr Benedict Cumberbatch (who is nominated for an Academy Award, unlike that Jamie person) is very, very hot. It is all tease with riding crops, but it is much more titillating and scintillating and tantalizing than the popular paint color movie.
