Ann Taylor Loft: why the hate

Because it means that there are literally no clothes that fit me in ATL anymore. The size zero is ridiculously big. It's not a brag. It's just a fact and it's my answer to the question the OP posed.

Haters gonna hate, I guess. I like Loft. And echoing others, NEVER pay full price. I usually do pretty well online when they have 70% off sales--- I rarely buy IN store though.

It's not because it's for 30-something professionals and inexpensive. It's because their clothes are really boring. No style.

But it looks like everything else in chain stores except European places like H & M and Allsaints or boho like Anthro and Urban Outiftters. It's classic with seasonal updates like colors and patterns. So it's just hate on the classic style in general?

Loft's jeans are so comfy on me. I always get them when they're on sale in my size for $24. One of their sweaters I got I still like a lot. Not knitted, but plain sweater with an embellishment.

Because I do 90 percent of my clothes shopping online and it's inconvenient to order three sizes and return the two that don't fit for every item I want to buy.

Loft acts as if tall women do not exist. Every time I walk in there it feels like I am drowning in petites and run out of the store.

I always thought their sizing was about one size off from Banana Republic and J Crew. I'm a size 6 in nearly everything I buy, but I used to be able to wear a 4 at ATL, which for me was weird. (I don't feel like a 4. I'm 5'8" and about 140.)

H&M sizes for skinny teenagers and Zara is sized more like European clothes - for skinnier people. I sometimes have to go up to a size large if I shop at Zara.

I always liked Banana's fit the best - it seemed perfectly cut for women with a thinner waist and a bit more hip. J Crew seems to cut for more of a straight up-and-down figure. I like how their pants fit through the legs, but I have to wear them very low on the hip or the waist is too big if the hips fit.

Oh, stop. Look at the size chart. This is urban legend continued by size 0s who think they're above something as "mainstream" as Loft.

Not pp, but I often wear a 0-2 at Loft, when I'm a 4-6 at other stores (J.Crew, Banana, etc). I think their vanity sizing is almost as bad as Old Navy's, and that's saying a lot.

It might have more to do with the shape/cut. I wear 0-2 at ATL and Banana Republic. I have narrow hips and not much of a waist. The 0 or 2 Marisa at ATL is usually perfect.

This makes sense. I'm an 8 in Loft and a 10 in J Crew because J Crew is cut for women with flat behinds.[u]

You're right!! That's why I can't wear J Crew pants. I could never figure out why they absolutely never fit - but it's because I have a butt (and I cannot lie).

Re: ATL - yeah, I think people mock it because they think they are too good to be a middle-class 20 or 30-something. I find some great stuff there. My favorite tank top is from there. I've gotten a couple of chambray shirts off their clearance rack ($3.98 and $9.99 each). The sweaters make me sneeze, but they've got some really cute, reasonably-priced stuff that has lasted just as long and worn just as well as way way more expensive items in my wardrobe.

I agree with you pps! I have NO butt or hips and J Crew fits great. I also buy men's jeans sometimes. I hope they never change because I have a very hard time finding clothing. (I also have 34 DD so buying shirts is interesting too!)

Plus there's never anything in my size in the store, which is annoying. apparently every other freaking person in Arlington is an ATL size 6.

No an ATL 0-2, but a 4-6 in real sizes!

Me too...and I'm not a teeny-tiny person!

I'm just curious how tall you are and how much you weigh if a size 0 at ATL is ridiculously big on you.
I'm 5'7 and 135, and usually wear a 4 there. I feel like I'd have to be anorexic for an ATL size 0 to be too big on me.

I am not even tempted anymore. The styles are so bad. Bye Girl, it was fun while it lasted.

NP, but I have this issue with ATL as well. I'm generally a size 2 in other brands, occasionally 0 and pretty much alway wear XS in shirts, 26 in designer jeans. Everything at ATL is too big, and I can't wear petites due to height. I'm 5'6 and about 116.

The clothes look and feel cheap.
