This doesn't represent the vast majority of Gen Y. Not by a long shot. They are coming into the most competitive job market the U.S. has ever seen. They have to stand out and having Mommy call your boss won't do that. |
| OPs story is either fake or blown up for comedic effect. Working in HR for an international company I have never had this happen to me. My guess is that the mom was a neighbor or community member who was making the connection. If OPs story is real, it certainly does not represent any particular generation or profession. It is a story about an individual who lacks professional esteem. |

OP here. I'm shocked to look at DCUM and see that this is still carrying on.
No the story is not fake, no this was not a neighbor referring a daughter. It was TWO different individuals that responded to a job posting. PP, working in HR for an international company and looking to hire a nanny are two totally different audiences. As an HR professional, I'm surprised you are not aware of this distinction and why your experience might be different from mine. I run sales operations for a large billion dollar company. I do not assume that sales operations of a vegetable stand is the same as what I do on a daily basis. Regardless, I have a few great candidates that found me without the assistance of their mothers. I feel more comfortable with an independent and resourceful adult watching my children. For anyone who s looking for a nanny with a momager, I am happy to pass my seconds along to you. |
