Agree on the Troll comment. ABSENT a strong legacy, a recruit (or grandpa built the new gymnasium!), no way anyway can look at any Ivy other than in the context of it being a "reach" school.

We all know LOTS of DCs with perfect SATs, beyond straight As....each of whom receive that "REJECTED"! answer....totally nuts to say "in the bag..."

Stanford is unusual in that it evidently rejects something like 70% of the early action applicants and defers only a small number. If you are rejected you cannot apply reg decision. At the info session on campus this past summer, the presenter suggested there was no real advantage statistically to early action and it would be smart to wait if by doing so you would have a stronger application (because of additional grades or achievements).
