Safety concern at the beach?

You are all a little crazy. If the kid can't swim do you think he will be diving into the waves? He is 11, not 4yrs old.

OP, go to the beach and have fun. There is plenty to do. He will probably get his feet wet, try stand boogie boarding in the shallow end and dig major holes in the sand. Maybe he will get a little push to truly learn when he sees others his age jumping in the waves. But really, most kids only go knee high anyway.

I agree with lessons but there is no way I wouldn't go on a beach vacation because one of my kids couldn't swim yet. I took all my toddlers, preschoolers etc... You set the limits together before you get to the beach and you watch him like you would a toddler. Bring your chair to the shallow end if you have to. Let the poor kid have some fun.
