It is silly to keep defining Ashburn as an exurb because of its relationship to DC, when this region has several employment hubs and most people in Ashburn now have relatively short commutes to jobs in Tysons and other parts of Northern Virginia. It would be like definining Arlington as an exurb because it's a long commute to NYC. That's why Brookings Institute studies treat Ashburn as suburban, not exurban. Sorry you don't get it. |
we are talking about who is and who is not in a suburb of DC. Yes - I would say Ashburn is a suburban area. I would not say it is a suburb of DC. Have your kids learned about urban, suburban and rural living? Ashburn would be defined as a suburb in my child's elementary school. It is, however, NOT a suburb of DC. We'll just have to agree to disagree. |
Sounds like you're both in agreement it's not an exurb. |
