This is the parent I wouldn't want. |
You think the only education that goes on in school is done by the teachers? You think the only person qualified to 'teach' are those who do it as a profession? Of course the 'professional' should direct instruction but that doesn't mean the kids can't learn from the non-professional. BTW - teachers don't learn to teach in college, they learn how to teach in the classroom. I don't have a degree in education but I'm well qualified to teach. I don't care if you want me to teach your child or not. If you don't like someone like me teaching your kids, go private. I'm sure it would be a much better fit for you. |
| Also, we all want smaller teacher-student ratios. Sure parent volunteers are not teachers, but they can teach our kids something or at least check over work. |
| I'd be fascinated to hear what the teachers think. Do we have any elementary level teachers on here? I got the impression last year that my DC's teacher really didn't find the parents to be very helpful. She really discouraged volunteers for anything other than weekly folders, field trips and parties. |
| I teach in an elementary school and as I mentioned earlier I don't really know what I would gave a paren't do within the classroom. I would never ave a arent grade papers or record grades. I've seen parents in the lower grades help with the leveled bags of books the kids take home.parents help a lot in the library and art room. |
| Gosh. The spelling above was butchered on my IPad. Sorry. |
Reading crap like this makes me glad I work and my world is bigger than only my kids. I volunteer once a month. I go in, do what the teacher tells me to and then I leave. Normally I have to work a station and help the kids with some sort of activity. I do not gossip or talk with other mothers who seem to be groupies at the school. I just have no time. My kid is simply happy to see me there and gets really excited. That is why I do it. |
