All serious about lacrosse private schools will. Shame no publics. Summer is recruitment central. Fall is prob going to be a step down but still a big one.

Every big time college program will be at NHSLS. Even the head coaches are on the sidelines. Who’s who of college lacrosse.

Heck, I can't think of a single boy or girl lax recruit who received $20k in an athletic scholarship. The money just isn't there on the school end. If someone says they are getting it then I would want to know the school name.

Friend got a full ride to Loyola in b’more in late 90s. He was just an exceptional athlete.

Great games today. A nice turnout by parents and fans. Parking was a hassle but that's not new. I saw a good number of coaches rotating to different games throughout the day.

Anybody discouraging an athlete from going to a reach school is just annoyed that athletes are actually getting into reach school while other kids don't.

Um, no. My D (not an athlete) was not accepted into her reach school. Good thing, as we would have been forced to pay full sticker price. She graduated from a top 50 LAC and excelled there. I simply agree with Malcolm Gladwell in this regard.

Acclaimed author Malcolm Gladwell has some advice for teenagers looking into college.

"If you want to get a science and math degree, don't go to Harvard," he says.

Harvard is filled with the smartest people in the world, and perversely that makes it a dispiriting place to go to school.

He explains his full rationale in the video below, which is a talk he delivered at Google's Zeitgeist conference.

At Harvard, the lower tier students are as smart as the top tier students at an average school. However, the lower tier students get just as discouraged at Harvard as the lower tier students at an average school. The result: They don't get their degrees in math or science.

To each his or her own. I prefer my children to continue to challenge themselves by putting themselves in situations where they must focus and perform--whether on a team, at a school or in some other activity. With all due respect to Malcolm, oftentimes shooting for the moon is an exhilarating and rewarding experience. However, some may just wish to spend life in the comfort zone of their self-defined mediocrity, even with a math or science degree...

One doesn't have to go to a 'reach' school to be challenged. Unfortunately, some kids feel they have to overachieve to makeup for Daddy's shortcomings.

The NXT Philly Showcase was held last weekend. Saw several local kids made the Fab Forty All Star teams. How impressive is that? I have no idea, but I noticed several local high school programs and clubs were touting the kids who were selected on social media.

Not the same cachet as a few years ago, but a few years ago it was either Philly or Jake Reed who were the only games in town. Jake Reed, who the hell is that you might ask? Exactly.

Bottom line an all star team selection even in the podunk tourneys (yeah, ML I’ll talking about you) is still a “deal” but these days much less of one.

These fab teams and the like are all clever marketing. Tournaments have figured out their market--club and high school teams who want and need to have parents thinking they have to be at the event for kids to succeed and be noticed for the next level of play.

So these all star teams are BS? The fact that 180 coaches attended the NXT Philly showcase and presumably evaluated the kids means nothing?

My son has attended both Philly Showcase and the Invitational. Great exposure to college coaches D1-3, period. Obviously it is your money, spend it how you wish. What non-tournaments or showcases would you recommend to get the same level of exposure? I've sat in the stands for years, watching MIAA, IAC, WCAC and VA Public matches. Never in my life have I seen more then a handful of coaches at any high school game ... and those would be the local schools at that (JHU, MD, Loyola, etc...). Good luck to your kid getting noticed playing in the spring.

2020’s coaches are looking at now. Anything below you are wasting your money until next summer for the 21’s.
