How did the Brady family afford Alice?

Did Carol and the girls move into Mike's house? If so, then originally three kids were sharing two bedrooms, which isn't so bad.

...even with that unfortunate hair-do. a mullet for the ages!

It was actually called a "shag," and it was incredibly popular. HELL to grow out, and you wanted to grow it out as soon as you saw yourself in it. Both my mom and I had one. The world's ugliest hair style ever.

I frequently comment on how I would like an Alice and a Sam. I've always wondered if subliminally the Brady Bunch impacted the young girls of my generation -- those of us who grew up watching it.

You could probably even BE Alice for one hour a week.

She is buried next to my grandparents. As kids, we never asked about her family. I wonder to this day about her backstory, but it was always verboten.

This is one of the more intriguing posts I've read on DCUM in a while. . . Oh, the possibilities!

Illegitimate (and unacknowledged) sibling of one of your grandparents, perhaps?

I think they had each gender share a room so they wouldn't be diddling each other, step siblings or no.

I was more of a 3s company fan. I always used to wonder how they didn't get std's. When I was younger I even commented to my mum something about 'before venereal disease...' and she was like 'what are you talking about??' and I was like "you know, like in the 3s company days before people could get diseases from sex..." She was like "MMMMKAY kiddo, the 70s GAVE people diseases that were about long before that, even... Trust me, Larry Dallas is riddled with them!"

I'll always remember that, because she eyerolled about that show but then she somehow knew Larry's last name?? Busted, mum! In later years, my brother and I gave our mum a fake backstory about getting std's from Larry, which made her forever bitter...she would play along with it.

I also used to wonder wtf ever thought it was appropriate to have shorts that short! Only the 70s... oh wait, shorts are that short now...hmmmm gross

I loved the Brady Bunch and 3's Company.

Yes.
so that explains the three bedrooms and why one of the bedrooms was large enough to comfortably fit 3 beds.

One thing that always baffled me - the kids had one or two toys. But no toy boxes, no toy shelves, no toys in the living room or tv room

The dog would take all the toys and put it in its doghouse. Remember the Kitty Carryall (sp?) episode?

I loved three's company and thought chrissy was so so pretty and cute and fun...my mom would sometimes prohibit me from watching it saying it was a disgusting show with too much innuendo and jiggle. I remember wondering what that meant.

On the Brady vacations: the Hawaii one was a work related trip. So the client flew Mike and the family out. With the Grand Canyon vacation they drove and camped with a camper. So they did keep costs down.

Also, same with the vacation to the amusement park. It was a work trip, which is why the blueprints were left by Jan in the canoe.

All this I know and I can't remember to put earrings on in the morning.

Seriously? Tell that to all the people making $7.25 an hour who are in their 20s and 30s. That's less than $15,000 a year.

I see: Because my mom worked in the 1970s, I'm going to be spending a fortune to send my DD to college? I had not heard that explanation before for the insane run up in college costs...or housing for that matter.
