Here's more evidence I'm an ass, I guess.
I'm 11:15. Enjoy!

PP at 11:15, I am glad that you and your husband are making it work. It does not follow that therefore everybody else is equally able to make it work, and if they can't make it work, or if they're worried about how they're going to make it work, they are whining ninnies. |
How so?
Each time I tell others about my morning commute, they often cringe at the time we leave. My nanny arrives at 6:15 am, which is when I'm out the door. My husband leaves before I do b/c his commute is a bit longer. I fail to see how a long bus ride to a magnet school affects a parent's commute. My friend is a SAH. She does morning care for her neighbor's child in exchange for tutoring services. Why are logistics so difficult for people? If money is an issue, then bargain. Be resourceful. sorry - But this is why so many kids are enabled . . . b/c their own parents can't handle situations.
|
I agree with this. Do what you need to make it work. And quit whining. You're not doing your kids any favors. |
OP, check out the schedules of all the buses that go to the magnet school and see if there are any others within the vicinity of your house that don't take as long. if there is, you can call the bus depot and try to change the bus your child is assigned to -- I did this after my DS was assigned to a bus that wasn't good for us (because he needed to be dropped off at the home school in the afternoon for aftercare). |
OK, PP, you're right. I agree. If you can make it work, then anybody should be able to make it work. And if they can't make it work, or even worry that they might not be able to make it work, then they're weenies. Carry on. |
You brought kids into the world, so learn to deal.
It's not up to the public school system to work around YOUR schedule. We all make sacrifices. And I bet so FEW of you are in OP's situation to begin with. This is the FIRST time I've heard parents complain about a bus schedule causing logistical issues. OK - done . . . Enjoy making life difficult for yourself b/c you refuse to find alternatives.
|
Then you don't talk to a lot of parents with kids in immersion/magnet/whatever programs. |
I know, poor you. Sucks that you have to make these sacrifices so your kid doesn't have to go to school with all those poor brown kids at your neighborhood school. |
OP update here, I am talking with bus depot and routing department about better alternatives, giving him activities to do on the long ride, and driving him when my work schedule allows it. At this time, I do not have before care options or someone else who can drive him. I was frustrated because the bus ride increased from 30 minutes to 65 minutes with no warning. I am not sure if I would have said yes to this program had I known, since last year the ride was 40 minutes. I not think it is healthy for any child to be on a bus over 2 hours a day. Most need time to run around and play. However, I am weighing the cost/benefits of the program, since the home school was good and just as diverse as where he is now. For what it is worth, I did not leave his home school because of the kids...he is there for aftercare and has neighborhood friends. |
I know of quite a few in magnets, and not one parent has complained about the bus rides. Instead, they were just thrilled that their kids made it in - inconvenient or not.
Grow up.
|
Doesn't sound like this child will make it in the rough and tumble of magnet and life thereafter...the parent and child need to repeat curriculum 2.0 to acquire problem solving and critical thinking skills. Or better yet, the child's destiny is as a bus driver. |
with Mom in the seat behind him, reading him the directions from her phone |
Evidently not only are you a better person than I am, but your class of acquaintances is also better than mine. Well, it follows, I guess. |
You are a racist for even saying that!! The OP has a problem with the MCPS provided bus-service - (and they are notoriously mismanaged and stupidly bureaucratic to begin with) - and her kid is smart enough to get in the magnet program (so they are at the very least - less dysfunctional than you are!) and you are ascribing her motives to be racist? How do you know what her race is? And for your information all the "brown kids" (East Asians) are already filling your magnet schools... |
