I honestly believe the quality of the school systems simply aren't that different, so find the neighborhoods you can afford, then identify the ones on that list that make the most sense for you in terms of commuting, walkability, community feel, etc etc (whatever it is that matters to you). Then buy a house in that place. The end.

With Arlington schools being overcrowded with trailers, especially the North Arlington schools, are class sizes really smaller than Fairfax county schools????

APS max K is 24. Usually less except for ATS which is always full (lottery).

And FCPS max K is 28? Hopefully that is teacher plus aide.

Doesn't it depend on WHICH Asians, though? The Chinese do a lot better than the Cambodians. So we need to know where the Chinese are. The Indians, too.

APS mom here. I think that as more people continue to move to the 'burbs (whichever one they choose), we all run the risk of getting redistricted and not getting what we bargained for.

As far as Yorktown is concerned, it, along with several of the FFX schools is consistently ranked in the top 50 in the country. So no, I am not concerned that my kid is going to get a second rate education. Rather, this feels like an endless p*$$ing contest where one is arguing over differences without distinction. It's what causes you to haggle over what appears to be a lot of money in a foreign country, when it's really pennies. #stoparguingaboutpesos

I don't think I could live in FFX without a lobotomy. Too high of an "American Beauty" factor. Too many homes that look like they were built out of construction paper. Too many people who think Santana's "Supernatural" is just too good to be true. Oh. Dear. God. Raise a child in THAT environment? Noooo thanks.

I must say, I am very offended by the "Follow the Asians" comment. Are we then undermining everybody else as not being smart enough to go to any of the good schools??!! I happen to be from North Dakota and have a master's degree, thankyouverymuch! I would like to think I am as "followable" to a good school as any "Asian" that is being referred to by the PP. Ugh. You people are the worst. I live in Arlington, I LOVE being in Arlington. But why would you put down people who choose something else? Different commutes, different priorities, just where they ended up... you say this crap and then someone from Fairfax will reply next saying how they hate all the ugly houses in Arlington with no space. What is the point? All of the people doing this are just miserable....
