Poll: degrees of AAP "prep"

Anonymous
Those families who "prep" whether or not they use the exact of the test do spend alot on prepping and enrichment activities

True story, I have friends took their DC to one of the "elite AAP summer camp", got into the pool, but found not eligible. I don't think the camp uses real tests though.

Think about it, if it was so easy to prep and get into AAP, why does anyone even have to ask?

You can spend alot of money and at the end of the day, your kid isn't any smarter, and there chances of getting into AAP 'may' be 'marginally' improved. More likely not at all. There's a fair number of kids who made the cutoff in terms of testing, but a low GBRS keep them out of the 'eligible' pool.

Wasted money, wasted time. Unless you have a copy of the test. And that's a totally different conversation.

Kids need a balance of different kinds of activities. How will they get strong and develop coordination if they spend all their after school time and summer days doing test prep and/or extra academics? My kids did all their school work and homework, and they spent time reading on their own but no test prep. Went through GT/AAP, one is presently at TJ and another at a top 25 university.

No prep for GT or TJ. Too busy doing sports, arts, music, and community activities. Think their better off in the long run, and clearly it did not hurt them.

^22:44 poster with one more thing to add: Keep in mind, there will always be someone more than willing to take your money so you can feel like you are doing everything possible to get your child into AAP.
