And lord knows that the parents of the snowflakes on this thread will not tolerate any suggestion that their "quirky" kid may have autistic tendencies. That would shake their world view of their exceptional child, who is profoundly different because of profound gifts. Another reason why we fail so many 2e kids (parents in denial). |
You sound dumb. Just because some parents of ASD kids prefer to use a nicer sounding word to describe their autistic child does not mean that I or any other parent of an appropriately defined (refer to Webster's) quirky kid, that the truly quirky is now ASD. Gimme a break! ASD parents have not redefined this word just because they prefer it. The majority of parents do NOT have ASD kids and define quirky the same way as the dictionary. ASD is not mentioned in the definition! |
If your DC is "quirky" as in has autism, AAP is not the best place for him--it is very competitive and means for an advanced academic child --hence the name. If quirky means he is smarter than everyone else, join the crowd. |
I know people on the Austism Spectrum that are extremely smart...as in graduating from top school (e.g., Cambridge). Furthermore, on of our current business leaders, Mark Zuckerberg seems to be on the Autism Spectrum (I could be wrong). It is possible to have ASD and be extremely bright |
No kidding. No one said 2E is fictional. Posters were replying to those who wish to define quirky as meaning ASD. And it does not. |
You sound "quirky." In bunny ears. |
And I think President Obama may be on the Autism Spectrum, also. |
There has always been talk that Bill Gates is ADS (autism spectrum disorder). |
that's ASD. i must have dyslexia. armchair pysch. |
